Grayson on Obama, the Nobel and Afghanistan

I just spoke with Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), the progressive firebrand most known for his willingness to call out Republican obstructionism on health care reform. Asked about Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize, Grayson noted that he mused on the House floor yesterday that “if President Obama was able to bring about world peace, the GOP would criticize him for destroying the defense industry,” and the award will “put that to the test.” Grayson proclaimed himself “very interested to see the Republican reaction.” For that I can only recommend everyone check out my colleague Dave Weigel’s work.

Grayson is a vocal critic of the Afghanistan war, a chorus that’s growing both in the halls of Congress and across the country. But he said he was pleased so far with Obama’s ongoing strategy review for Afghanistan, even if it appears not to include a serious consideration of withdrawing troops. “The man in charge is someone with a conscience, who understands peace is better than war,” Grayson said, “and over time he’ll change his mind.”

Grayson is a complete waste of oxygen. Just like his buddy Obama.

How much pull does an anti-war supporter like Grayson have in congress? It seems like the tug-o-war between Obama and McCain (still?) is on center stage, more details here: http://bit.ly/L9bZF

Yeah, why can't they make substantive contributions to the national debate like you? And since when did wingnuts care about oxygen or carbon dioxide or greenhouse gasses in general?

President Obama may have meet with neocons like McCain and Lieberman, but I am sure he was just humoring him. The real debate is clearly primarily internal within the administration and Democrats in Congress.

Uncharacteristically sober and thoughtful for Rep. Grayson. I agree with him.

They're bankrupt-in everything. That's why all they can do is whine!
