Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters today that he supports the public option, which twice failed in the Senate Finance Committee yesterday, but hasn’t determined if the health reform bill he brings to the floor will include it.
Reid said the bill to hit the floor will be fashioned after consulting with leaders on the Finance and HELP committees, as well as those in the White House.
Once that’s done, we’ll decide jointly as to what should be in that bill. I support a public option.
The amendment process on the chamber floor, he added, will have more influence on the final bill than any decisions he makes prior to it.
“Time will determine,” he said, “what’s going to be in the bill.”

Another case of “I support the public option, but I can't guarantee I'll do anything to help bring it about, even though I could be a lot of help if I tried.”
