Trent Franks Walks Back ‘Enemy of Humanity’ Remarks
Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 2:10 pm
Joan Lowy talks to a spokeswoman for Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) about his comment that President Obama’s support for legal abortion made him an “enemy of humanity.”
Bethany Haley, spokeswoman for Franks, said the congressman was referring to “unborn humanity” and should have clarified his statement. She also said that Franks meant to say that Obama’s abortion-related policies have no place in government, rather than that Obama has no place in government. [...]
“He was just referring to the way President Obama has set himself up as the most pro-abortion president in America’s history,” Haley said.
It’s pretty humiliating for Franks, who is crusading in Congress to find a backdoor method of giving “personhood” to fetuses, to rely on a phrase like “unborn humanity.” That’s redundant, in his view. But just like his August gaffe on Obama’s citizenship, Franks has been chewed up by the mainstream media for being a little too honest in explaining his ultra-conservative issue stances.

I wonder what Congressman Franks' stand is regarding In Vitro Feritilization clinics, stem cell research, adoption and full rights for Gay Lesbian and Transgendered Persons?

Sorry, I don't buy it. He only retreated when it became obvious he was about to get visited by the Secret Service and possibly charged with a felony. As far as I can tell, he spoke his true mind the first time. The Secret Service should still pay him that visit, and have a nice long talk with him. His defense should be presented in court, not in the press.

YOu are right. And all of us should b flooding Frank's office with phone calls and faxes to register our outrage and disgust. When will we start hitting back as hard as the Repubes if the table were turned. I'm so distressed at the Democratic leaders passivity when it comes to this sort of hate speech.
