Club for Growth, American Conservative Union, Endorse Third-Party Congressional Candidate

Yesterday, I noted that former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) had endorsed Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party’s candidate for an upstate New York congressional seat vacated by Secretary of the Army John McHugh. Since then, the Club for Growth and the American Conservative Union’s PAC have endorsed Hoffman. From the ACU PAC’s press release on this:

The GOP candidate, NY Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava, “stands for higher taxes, bigger government, anti-family policies and just about everything that Republican voters oppose. The fact that she was ranked as the third most liberal member of the entire, very liberal, New York State Assembly says it all, ” Keene said.

Keene said that on many issues Scozzafava would, if elected, vote with Nancy Pelosi.  “We don’t need Pelosi-lite in Washington.”

Wait, Club for Growth is getting involved in a Republican primary? The Democrat is going to win for sure then. CfG doesn't exactly have a great record at this, and upstate New York might be Republican but it's very RINO. The Club's agenda won't have much truck there.
