Max Baucus, the Poorest Democrat

Jennifer Yachnin reports this detail in a story on the relative personal wealth of senators.

Wealth in the chamber ranges from Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) — the richest Member of Congress overall — who tops the list with a minimum net worth of at least $167.55 million, to Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), who registers a negative $40,000.

Yes, the fiscally conservative Democrat whose budget hawk nature has frustrated liberals on health care reform is, himself, in the red, having spent nearly a million dollars on a new house in D.C.

Given that Max has over spent…….making him even more dependent on corporate money.

Rumors have it that Max also spent a lot on his ranch outside Helena….

Is there a money trail that warrants further digging? I don't think Goldman Max is hurting….unless he's on private health insurance like so many of the rest of us.

Max and his family (his son at Goldman Sachs ???) are doing just fine – especially by our Montana standards.

He's a poor Senator, that's for sure

oh no; well guess that explains where he is coming from; someone has to bail him out and it's looking like the health care industry; which in turn if the baucus senate finance committee bill passes as written now, will only to serve as a quid pro quo.

Is he in the red prior to the healthcare debate? Where does the $3.5 mil. he received from the insurers and Pharma sit? If he is broke, how do you qualify to buy a $1million dollar home? On a $175,000 income?
