Huckabee in St. Louis: Get America Out of the U.N. (Video)

[UPDATE -- Video of the speech is below the jump.]

ST. LOUIS — Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.), speaking to a very friendly dinner crowd at the “How To Take Back America” conference, said that he’d “nearly had an Elvis moment” watching this week’s United Nations general assembly sessions and spoke about pulling out of the world organization altogether.

“It’s time to get a jackhammer and to simply chip off that part of New York City,” said Huckabee, “and let it float into the East River, never to be seen again!” That remark got him a standing ovation, and Huckabee went on to suggest de-funding the U.N. entirely.

“It’s time to say enough of the American taxpayer’s dollar being spent on something that may have been a noble idea, but has become a disgrace!” said Huckabee. “It has become the international equivalent of ACORN and it’s time to say enough!”

Huckabee continued, suggesting that the U.N. be handed over to one of the nations that attacked America. “Let’s end the diplomatic excesses that these people enjoy,” he said. “Let any country that is willing to spend the money that the United States is hosting–let them have it. Give it to the Saudis and let these diplomats suck the sand out of the Saudi desert for a few summers and see if that’s where they’d like to go, and make their ridiculous speeches.”

The GOP continues to double-down on the crazy. Barring anyone sane coming out of the GOP primaries, 2012 could very well be 1964 all over again.

As a NYC resident — who must make do with the traffic jams and ridiculous privilgeges paid to these “dignitaries” on our tax dollar — Mike Huckabee took the words right out of my mouth — albeit he says it a heck of a lot better than I could.

If you think he is a radical — if you do not believe that a majority would 100% agree with those thoughts — then I suggest you get out of your crowd for a while — you would be surprised — and you will be shocked in 2012.

Wow. Just wow. This is the frontrunner for the GOP nomination. The party isn't going to have any chance if it keeps lunging to the radical right like this. I guess some ideology had to fill the void with the collapse of neoconservativism on the right, but rank isolationism? Really?

HISTORY REMINDER…

In an October 1978 radio address, Reagan declared that “no national interest of ours could justify handing sovereign control of two-thirds of the earth's surface to the Third World. Americans should be skeptical about a U.N. treaty that gives control over the world's oceans to an unaccountable international bureaucracy. (source: Heritage Foundation 10/24/07)

Both Ronald Reagan and Mike Huckabee share many similiar attributes. Here are just ten points:

1. Both are TV celebrities.
2. Both are Funny and Witty.
3. Both are Radio celebrities.
4. Both are Great Communicators.
5. Both stand for Limited government.
6. Both are strong Pro-Life Americans.
7. Both are popular Governor's in their home state.
8. Both are Quick on their feet with comeback zingers.
9. Both have strong Foreign Policy knowledge & Pro-Israel.
10.Both are Economic conservatives (Fair Tax & Supply Side).

Check it out for yourself and google: Huckabee Fan Club

Mike Huckabee's popularity continues to soar to new heights. His 2012 Presidential poll numbers are skyrocketing. The Republican establisment is starting to rally around Huckabee as they see he is the only one who can energize the base. Reagan came back to win in a landslide victory in 1980 after his Presidential loss in 1976. And now Huckabee is on his way to repeat another epic historic win for the Republican party.

It is very unlikely that a 1964 could occur again. Goldwater was not the ultra right conservative that the unchecked left leaning media of the day made him out to be. The MSM has shown their bias and the public is well aware of it – the old media will continue to be less important as alternate media replaces them. In 2012 the people of the United States will not be willing to take the word of the old MSM . The GOP should place a plank in their 2010 platform to cut funding to United Nations.

Clearly this dude is deciding to tack right, especially with the mention of ACORN.

ACORN is one of those weird focal points for conspiracy theories, a random nonprofit that the fringe somehow perceives as a CIA/KGB/black ops group. When the tea parties were first organized, there were Internet rumors that ACORN “operatives” were planning on sabotaging them.

Invoking ACORN basically identifies you as a believer in the alternate version of reality.

Of course that would leave only Staten Island, which is even less exciting than some bland, hopeless, wingnut suburb in Missouri.

Why is wanting to remove ourselves and our funding from the UN isolationism? We can talk to other countries without having to go through a third party. The UN is a joke. The USA picks up a large part of the tab for the UN behemoth, yet what have we gotten from the UN lately? They pass non-binding resolutions and never back them up with anything. They send out peacekeeping troops that have no authority to actually keep the peace. We have human rights abusers of the worst kind chairing committees on human rights! WTF?!? We have dictators and despots ranting about the most ridiculous nonsense. How is that supposed to contribute to global security? The UN will talk and talk and talk, and then one day everyone will wake up and Tel Aviv will be a sheet of glass. Some of you guys need to realize that you just can’t reason with some people. The UN is a waste of time and money.

Also, it doesn’t look like the left is fairing very well, since the majority of Americans are rejecting socialism. You can always move to Venezuela if you want to live in an oppressive socialist dictatorship. If you want to give the majority of your income away in taxes then please feel free to move to the UK, or another socialist European nation, and let freedom loving Americans continue with limited government interference in their lives.

The cliche throwing the baby out with the bathwater definitely applies here.

This is a moronic idea for two reasons (and certainly dozens more).

1) The US has a lot of influence in world affairs simply by having so many people meet in New York for such a high profile institution.

2) What better demonstration of free speech to the world can there be than letting some jackass ramble on for > an hour right after our President?

The willful ignorance on display by Mr. Huckabee should disqualify him from holding political office.

Yeah, being involved in the international community is so socialist and fascist. How dare we ever try to talk about serious issues with the fellow nations on this planet. After all, nothing that we do ever affects other countries or people, and whatever China does never affects anyone.

This is an intellectual priapism.

The Huckster reminds one of Major Frank Burns, circa 1951, in M*A*S*H. Major Burns attempted to teach English to a group of South Koreans. Major Burns would state a sentence. The South Koreans, training to serve as corpsman, would respond.

“Better red than dead.”

“Get us out of the U.N.”

“Don't contaminate our drinking water with fluoridation.”

In walks Captain Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce:

“Mairzy doats and dozy doats and little lambsy divey.”

I'm sick of the broad, sweeping generalizations thrown around by online commenters such as yourself about my city as a whole. Yeah, I think funding to the U.N. is a HUGE priority for most Americans. Oh no, Obama paid our dues!

Four years is a long time. Lots of old people are going to be gone by then (maybe shuffled out by the death panels?). 2008 was what, the biggest turnout for an election ever? Folks can hardly claim complacency. Meanwhile, the gap between the voting habits of 45 year old white men and minorities, GLBT, young folk, and women continues ever to grow in the Democratic party's favor. I think the GOP has a lot to worry about. Perceived dissatisfaction with Democrats may not a Republican party landslide make (just look at how independents are polling!) and we'll see how the economy turns around.

For ALL of you U.N. sympathizers, please read “The Fearful Master – A Second Look at the United Nations” by renowned historian, G. Edward Griffin. It details the true history behind the creation and agenda of the U.N. and its affiliates.

The United Nations was created by the Fabian socialists and Communists after the failed League of Nations. The U.N. and all of its affiliates have one goal, that is the dissolution of U.S. sovereignty and the creation of a one world. And as the sovereignty of nations goes, so goes your sovereignty and your rights as individuals. International law by an unelected political body is gradually taking precedence over natural law and the laws of once sovereign nations.

The U.N. is not about peace, but an instrument of war, bringing about one world totalitarian government. Where there are “blue helmets”, there is surely a history of civil unrest, famine, puppet regime, and genocide… It is the military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us of in his farewell address. Behind it all, are the international bankers that control the privately owned Federal Reserve and the IMF. Don't be fooled as they march forward with the implementation of their New World Order…

For those here making comments in support of the UN, have you noticed the common thread linking all your posts?

That's right!

A complete and utter absence of facts!

All you do is fall back on very dodgy emotional “logic” that all cooperation is good cooperation (why can't we all just get along?), no matter that it's always the democracies that compromise and always the tyrants who benefit. The failings of the UN are legion, but please feel free to continue ignoring them as you view the UN as this theoretical masterpiece, instead of the monstrous reality that it is. Remind me of some (any) foreign policy successes that have been achieved through the UN, please?

While one or two UN agencies are perhaps worth keeping, the GA itself is not.

The moment I heard Qaddafi say to the UN, that the UN headquarters needed to be moved. I posted on facebook that I thought this was a grand idea. I think we should force the move of the UN by dropping out of the UN. Also, since most of the world is ungreatful of our charity and our work abroad, I would propose to pull our troops world wide along with our $$$$s. Put our troops on our borders were they should already be, and as far as uor $$$$s, weelI say charity starts at home. We can't help fix another nations home when uor own home is such a mess.

You wingnuts oppose giving me the choice to opt out of for-profit health insurance into a public plan which will have no taxpayer subsidy, yet I walk to work. You don’t hear me demanding that you leave the country if you want socialized highways. It’s all rhetoric. You’ve stripped all meaning from the word “socialism”.

The right wing has turned essentially toward anarchism. Any government whatsoever is labeled “socialism” and denigrated.

Also, LMAO at “How is leaving the UN isolationist?” Do you have any idea how that will be viewed by our allies? How it will be viewed by the world in general? The UN is flawed like all human institutions, but it’s nothing near the wingnut distortion believed by the “dittohead” fringe that makes up the GOP.

Gee, and the FICTITIOUS Major Frank Burns couldn't possibly have been created by liberals in an attempt to demonize conservatives, could he? No, we all know that Hollywood-types aren't like that at all…

That's what I'm talking about. Good riddance to bad rubbish. When did they ever side with us or give us any help at all. We do not need them and never have. The atrocities that have been committed in the name of the UN is deplorable.

Actually Huckabee only said that the UN should be hosted elsewhere; he never actually stated that the US should pull out. While the implication is certainly open, too many of the comments here are attributing more to his remarks than he actually said & I look forward to hearing more of what he has to say on this subject.

I notice he has clarified at HuckPac that it was said “half jokingly”. It seems that he mainly wants to make the point that the UN is not working & something more radical than complaining about it needs to be done.

The UN is a corrupt and largely anti-American organization. If the parasites thought the host might cut them off from their blood supply, maybe they would be a little more concerned about cleaning up at least some of the garbage.

Public education leads most to believe that the UN is some kind of benevolent, make-the-world-a-better-place organization & most are unaware that the reality trends closer to the opposite. One has only to look at how they raped & pillaged Iraq's oil wealth while playing footsies with Saddam Hussein as proof of their being worse than useless. The UN is a bloated, bureaucratic & expensive organization that gives extremely little ROI!

Ever heard of, “If you keep doing what you always do, you will keep getting what you always got”….

They are a disgrace. There is no leadership at the UN. They never walk away with anything accomplished. Did you listen to the speeches made at the UN? Did you see any great leadership there? Obama was the worst of the lot. He started out apologizing for us and it went downhill from there. As an organization they stink.

For all you Dems out there, Mike Huckabee just wants to move the U.N., not get out of it. He wants the countries who complain so much about the U.S. to start paying for it to be housed in their country. He understands that there is value to being part of the U.N., but since we seem to be the enemy of so many countries, let them fork the bill for a change, and save the U.S. lots of money.

Will some one tell me what ” deeply concerned” and “severe consequences” mean when the UN uses these phrases? I haven't been able to figure it out? Does it mean ” shame on you don't do it again” or else we are going to “slap you hand and send you do bed early” The UN is a failed institution It was taken over by demigods and dictators. Ask yourself, “how many of its members are democratic countries” very few, about 30% I would guess. The UN membership is made up by “the student of the month” They like been here and they don't want to go back, they have great food while the people in their countries are starving, great entertainment. and all they have to do is talk, and talk and talk and throw in a ” deeply concerned' and “severe consequences” once in a while. To be called back to their country is looked upon as a punishment. Get rid of the UN it has FAILED.

This is an up-and-down kind of moment for me. One the downside, he shouldn't have made the comment about sending a chunk of new york off into the sea. If it had been a liberal talking about sending a chunk of a conservative part of the country into the sea, they'd be raked over the coals by the “mainstream” news networks.

That aside; the actual POINT he is making isn't a bad one (and this is coming from a pretty ardent liberal/Obama supporter). I don't like that my tax dollars go towards giving that nutjob Ahmadinajad or Qadafi (apologies if those are misspelt) a platform to spout their rhetoric. Let the UN realize the world's greatest nation doesn't have their back as much as we used to and maybe they'd finally grow some teeth with these tyrants. I don't think we should LEAVE the UN, which is what he seems to be implying (Though according to the comments of this thread, he wasn't calling directly for that; fair enough) but relocating the UN headquarters? Why not. I'm sure there's a whole bunch of American companies that could use the building for office space, generate some jobs. Sounds good to me.

As one of the “American People”, a Native American, (born in the United states) in 1939 I agree with you on “getting out of the U.N. it is as you stated and suggested, “de-fund it”. Stop paying for a dead horse, good money after bad. ACORN, the Chicago bunch, the Van Jones/Valeri Jerrets “within” OUR government and Oboma spending us into bankruptsy, (SELLING US OUT TO CHINA), and “De-programing & Re-programing our children” should WAKE UP “ALL”
American citizens, Glenn beck is on the right track in bringing out this CORRUPTION “within” OUR Government

We , “The people” need REAL change, CHANGE for the good of “ALL” American hard working tax paying citizen. (Black, White, Red, etc) it has noting to do with race.
