It definitely was NOT worth fighting. The Yankees should have let those seceding states go with good riddance. Lincoln had an unnatural love for the concept of “Union.” There is absolutely NO stipulation in the Constitution against states seceding. There was no valid LEGAL justification for forcing states to stay in the Union. Remember it was REPUBLICANS who prosecuted the Civil War.

David Weigel I find your posts extremely informative and insighful expecially the piece you did with NPR on Sept 23, 2009. It certainlly helps me to see the mindset of the new conservative movement as it shapes its opposition message, I also find it facinating how religious conservatives, who according to ther faith, future is assured in Christ Jesus seem to be riddled with such fear and uncertainly about tomorrow.

Interesting that Mr. Graham experiences distress at a President elected and vetted by a typical election, yet is comforted by the extra-Constitutional process driven by an activist judicial system as documented during the elections of 2000.

It is a sign of disrespect to the flag to do as you suggest, sir.

Flying the U.S. flag upside down is NOT disrespectful or commie. It is a signal of distress. And what could be more distressful than having an illegal-alien posing as our president?
