Mitt Romney to Joe Wilson-Inspired Heckler: ‘I Approve That Comment!’
Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-Mass.)’s Free and Strong America PAC put his speech to Values Voters online before he began speaking: the whole thing is here. But there was some back-and-forth that isn’t in that transcript.
“Candidate Obama promised not to raise taxes—’by one dime’—on people making less than $250,000 a year,” Romney said.
“He lies!” shouted a friendly heckler, paying tribute to Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C). Romney laughed as the crowd cheered.
“I approve that comment!” said Romney, smiling and pointing to the heckler.
The likely 2012 presidential candidate also paid fulsome tribute to the Tea Party movement. “[President Obama]’s not going to get his way, thanks to millions of Americas who have stepped up in town halls and tea parties across the country,” said Romney. “The Democrats call them a mob, crazies, trash. I call them patriots.”

I would say Romney lied. Obama lowered taxes for people making less than $250K. But I'm sure he had to echo the party line if he plans on running in 2012.
It's really funny too that he now condemns the TARP when he supported it before. As far as health care reform, I guess he forgets that he imposed Universal Health Care in MA when he was Governor.

I don't like a lot of what B.O. stands for, but the Repugnants can't hang this on him. Remember, it was Dubya who pushed the whole No Illegals Left Behind amnesty. Illegal aliens are already 'covered', anyhow, by recieving emergency treatment in public hospitals (often, for popping anchor babies).
Both the Bush-McCain axis and the Democrats like mass immigration for the same reason: to keep the real estate bubble inflated–more warm bodies mean more housing (and associated infrastructure, like roads and schools) to be built. The real estate and construction lobbies LOVE illegals.
Like the right wing of the GOP did against Bush, left wing Democrats have to get a spine and stand up against the mass immigration agenda in their party. Every fecund family of illegals means more urban sprawl, loss of farmland and wild areas, as well as stress on freshwater supplies. You can be either pro-environment, or pro-mass immigration, NOT both.

Adam, the GOP is the party of No Accountability: they refuse to acknowledge ANYTHING they've said OR done in the last 2 weeks or the past 8 years. They are pathologically shameless. I am not a rubberstamp Obama supporter either, but this is a lot like the Clinton years when the attacks were so irrational & rabid that I supported him by default. Here we go again. Regarding the preposterous Wilson accusation re illegals, 3 points:it is absurd on the face of it, the illegals are already covered via the ER, and thirdly: really? the GOP wants to play the immigrant card? Let 'em!! It's a losing issue!!

Thats right. They will lose mid-terms as well as 2012 if they keep trying to play this card.

The constitution allows states such as Massachusetts to control health care, and that is an idealistic experiment. You don't experiment with 300 million people.
National health care concentrates even more power in Washington. I believe there is extensive corruption in both parties; even if you don't, Washington will someday be controlled by a Nixon or Bush who you don't want to control YOUR life.

I don't know much about internal party politics, but the Democrats seem much more monolithic than the Republicans. Except for that huge Clinton vs. Obama split, they tend to be more unified…although those 'blue dog' types seem to represent nother fault line. The GOP had a massive fracture over the immigration issue, when Bush supported amnesty legislation.
Publically-funded healthcare is a great idea, but I think it was Milton Freidman who said that you can have unlimited immigration, or a welfare state, but not both. I'll take the welfare state. According to many Brits, the NHS was pretty good, until the massive influx of immigrants in the last 20-odd years. Canada's healthcare system has huge budget haemmorhages from all the elderly immigrants who've come via family reunification. Like getting employers out of the healthcare loop, curbing immigration could be a left-right consensus issue.

Getting employers out of healthcare, devolving health policy to the states and alowing states to go public (single-payer, or even health service, like the old Dellums bill) could win the grudging support of staunch 10th Amendment-types in the GOP. Canada's health system, for example, is run by the Provinces. Some Swiss cantons have public (rather than the usual private) insurance funds.

regarding Demo unity, the supreme irony of the right wing attack machine is that it unifies the Party! Without the barbarian hoardes and their over the top lunacy the Demos are the original 'herd of cats' going in every direction but forward. Conversely, I have never seen such turmoil and leaderlessness on the right in my lifetime. The GOP is in real danger of disintegration. They have driven out nearly every moderate and god knows what's next for them. Interesting insights about Canada & UK; I'm not much of a Friedmanite myself-I'm an unreconstructed Keynesian lol…

This seems to be a crack in the Dems, too:

Why? Sure Paterson had an affair, but he wasn't a rough sex with prostitutes John, unauthorized money transfering scumball like Spitzer. He seems solid and sensible enough.

Truth?!
You people wouldn't know the truth if it bent you over, and did you from behind! Stop wielding it like a shield. It's not working too well.

Romney, like Beck, is walking a dangerous path and risking his integrity for the sake of GOP lies and manipulation. Possibly his salvation, for it is apparent that God does not care for liars, and lumps them in with murderers, whores, and other unsavoury folk marked for a non-upward eternal destination.
To have so many lies from the right but no one on the right stand up and denounce the liars suggests that because the lies are – supposedly – beneficial to the political cause of the GOP, they can be overlooked, is a telling commentary on how far the party of integrity has fallen.
Even the pigs are complaining about the muck and stench!
