I can’t imagine comments like that will play well with the social conservative base at all. I mean if you’re going to say that you’re against gay adoption then why not just stick with that view rather than trying to massage it? The qualifier after the interview does some damage. Why? Because McCain had an opportunity to add the gay adoption issue to his Evangelical checklist and now it’s muddy. As for this being a state issue? Why do so many politicians use the federalist approach to get out of a sticky situation? McCain’s not the first and he won’t be the last.
==============================

akhil

=============================

<a href="http://www.drugstrategies.org/Treatment/Iowa"rel="dofollow" rel="nofollow">Iowa Drug Treatment Centers-

Social conservatives are saddened by children in foster care or orphanages too. So that’s not the issue. The debate over gay adoption is another matter entirely. The focus here is on John McCain. Evangelicals are already feeling fidgety about McCain and have concerns about him on a number of issues. Why add to the list?

Let’s face it. Taking a hard line against gay adoption does not play well in the maverick, independent McCain persona. It doesn’t help him attract the moderates he needs But this move hurts him with the Evangelical base too.

=========================
akhil

=========================

Iowa Drug Treatment Centers-

I don't agree with President Bush.I think it is not wise to take the measure that the govement would rather let the children stay in orphanage than be adopted by the gay or lesbian parents.people discuss the topic hotly on the forum ***seekbi.com***

Notice the answer to question 2. It is not really an answer. McCain just regurgitates what he said in question one. So, he encourages adoption. BFD. The adoption situation in America has become critical: there are very few orphanages any more. Faith-based entities used to have them on an almost regular basis, but ever since the Duplessis Orphans scandal (Quebec), the practice has been to place children in foster homes. The treatment of some children in foster homes is criminal. And the older they get, children become less attractive as adoptees. In essence, what McCain has done in his dodging of the question is say, "Well, I'd rather have the kid in an orphanage or foster care then have them grow up under the care of two queers."

Of course, McCain had no choice about the matter: he's lukewarm for Evangelical voters. If he said he was for gay adoption, he would have cut out a large section of society and said "Fuck You!"

It's too late in the gain to start educating evangelicals about what the APA has found - especially since they think that the APA is in league with the Anti-Christ.
