Most people recognize that climate change is a problem, and this poll shows that people are willing to harness the power of the market to reduce emissions where it's the least expensive and spurs the most innovation. A carbon cap would actually create jobs; the UN estimated in 2006 that the green energy industry will be a $1.9 trillion market by 2020, and I read an Associated Press article earlier this month that said China will become a $1 trillion market on its own! I think the US could do well to get a head start in this area.

If people knew what the benefits and costs (a dime a day per person: CBO, EIA, EPA) of a carbon cap were, as opposed to just listening to Glenn Beck's scare tactics, all of these numbers would be above 70%, no matter what district you surveyed. But despite the fact that not everyone is going to be studying climate science and economics for hours, the majority of people believe that their representatives votes were good ones. That's very encouraging to me, and it should be to Democratic Senators in swing states as well (not to mention a few Republicans).

Not too surprising that "a new poll that Democratic firm Garin Hart Yang conducted on behalf of the Environmental Defense Fund" finds support for cap and trade legislation. Congress needs to hear that a majority of Americans do not support legislation that will kill jobs and increase the cost of energy. Voice your opposition to cap and trade at http://tiny.cc/pxIgi.
