Inflate Those Expectations!

Greg Sargent has the details of a very conveniently leaked House Democratic memo on tomorrow’s 9/12 Tea Party march on Washington.
A top House Dem leadership aide has emailed a memo to Dem aides on the Hill and outside liberal groups … the aide, Doug Thornell, warned in the memo that the dust-up over Joe “you lie” Wilson has been invigorating conservatives. “It looks like Saturday’s event is going to be a huge gathering, estimates ranging from hundreds of thousands to 2 million people.”
It’s true that the Tea Party movement has latched onto Wilson’s outburst. It’s come up at every event I’ve covered yesterday and today. Dick Armey of FreedomWorks happily defended Wilson into reporters’ voice recorders. But 2 million people? Mary Katherine Ham is right: This is expectations-managing, a way for Democrats to dismiss the size of the rally if, say, a few hundred thousand people show up. That would be incredibly impressive, but less than 2 million.

The Dems are gaming the media in the expectations game, alright, but remember how the “Million Man March” also fell a few people short, although BHusseinO was there to show his colors ;-]. Rev. Farrakhan stole the show and the media oohed and aahed. You can bet that a turnout of fewer than half-a-million will mean botulism-poisoned Speaker Pelosi's brain will go into a senior rictus again.
Let's see, Harry Reid calls Bush a “loser” while claiming he's lost a war [just before the Surge pulled the US chestnuts out of the Iraqi fire] and San Fran Nan calls tax-paying citizens “swastika-waving” and they expect not to take a pounding in 2010? They and Murtha should cash in their chips and let Steny Hoyer & a less dotty Dem senator, maybe Byrd of WVa, take the reins from the two eff-ups now messing up Obama's programs.

Daveinboca,
I couldn't agree with you more. Byrd is much more qualified to run things than any of the first three that would with the current order of things (ie Obama, Biden, Pelosi). Thus far the estimates have ranged from 450,000 people there today to 1.2 million. This turn out should have the liberals shaking in their shoes. These weren't just Republicans. They were Republicans, Independents, and Democrats, all demanding accountability from Congress and the Administration, and demanding that they stay within the parameters of their Constitutional authority. This was a warning shot of what is to come next year when there is going to be a massive turnover. Americans want true fiscal conservatives to vote for, not the RINOs we have been given over the last decade.

What? You are nuts, lady. Certifiable. While 450,000 may seem like a lot, it is a tiny drop in the bucket compared to the US population as a whole. Roughly 304,000,000 people. Dumb angry rednecks huffing and puffing around the National Mall has me less than worried. Glad you people are finally getting off your huge asses and getting some exercise for once.

Meanwhile, here in the real world, there were only thirty to sixty thousand birthers, Randroids, and radical Republicans displaying their crazy for all the world to see.
