ACLU Responds to Mandatory E-Verify

The announcement that all government contractors starting today must use the controversial E-Verify system to check employee work eligibility is, not surprisingly, disappointing critics who’ve pointed out that the system is not reliable.

Here’s what Chris Calabrese, American Civil Liberties Union legislative counsel, had to say today:

In the middle of the toughest job market in decades, the administration has chosen to erect another roadblock to gainful employment for U.S. workers. Mandating all federal contractors to use E-Verify could encourage contractors to fire workers based on erroneous database discrepancies and to avoid hiring workers who are perceived to be foreign born. This flawed Bush-era policy, now adopted by the current administration, will only hurt the American workforce without improving our nation’s immigration enforcement practices.

According to an article at NPR,

“Earlier versions were not so accurate: At one point 20 percent of all workers were flagged as illegal. But after years of refining the program, Wright says, the rate is down to 3 percent. And less than one-tenth of those are mistakes, such as wrong numbers or wrong names, rather than illegal workers.

“That basically means 2.8 percent — just under the 3 — were found to be not authorized to work in the United States,” Wright says. “Translation: E-Verify system works. That's exactly what it's supposed to do.”

Illegal aliens are taking jobs that American Citizens could fill. “In the middle of the toughest job market in decades, the administration has chosen to erect another roadblock to gainful employment for U.S. workers.” That's just plain deceptive. It actually will help to employ legal aliens and block illegal aliens. That sounds like a good plan to me.

This measure will protect Americans not hurt them. The ACLU needs to get with the times. We are in the information age. They fear that some records may be bad. This is better than a many illegals taking our tax money! Chances of this happening far outweigh your concerns.

A major victory for the 14 million unemployed Americans and the millions of us that have had their SSN stolen by illegal aliens to falsely file I-9s.

It must be remembered that the ACLU was actually founded by avowed communist Roger Baldwin.

There true goal is NOT to defend or protect Americans, but rather, use the Constitution as a means to undermine and attack the U.S.

By their deeds shall you know them.

The defend the pedophiles of the North American Man/Boy Love Association, but attack the Boy Scouts at every turn.

Currently, they are going after Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Arizona due to his aggressive use of 287(g)
and subsequent aprehension of illegals.

Naturally, the Usual Suspects are in on this-namely, Eric Holder of the Department of Justice.

Holder and the ACLU are attempting to ascertain whether “racial profiling” was involved in the
arrest of illegals, so they have brought some of the deported illegals back and given them immunity for their testimony against Arpaio.

Wow ! Do you think a deported illegal might just say he was “racially profiled???”

E-Verify is 99.5 percent effective, thats why the ACLU objects to it, it keeps their illegal alien pals from taking jobs from American workers. Its the same as the ACLU objecting to our fence along our southern border. Where a proper fence has been installed, apprehensions of illegal aliens dropped significantly. And, the Obama administration and the ACLU do not want to credit the fence for hurting the Mexican drug cartels because, if they did, the public would demand that they finish the job.

Anyone, who actually belives that “illegals” should be allowed to compete with out of work Americans during this near depression, is either crazy, or a stupid liberal.

The only way President Obama has any possibility of passing health care reform, is a commitment to remove illegal immigrants from gaining entrance to any public option? In the health care bill they must–PROVE–to the majority of the American People that–NO ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONAL–will be able to bleed the government extension in the package. An amendment to the 1000 page reform bill, must guarantee–IN THE WORDING– that a very thorough background identity check is performed on any applicant who applies? E-Verify would be a progressive identifier, with an initial examination of Social Security number in conjunction with Homeland Security Databases.

To complete the operation of E-Verification this PC application, must branch out across the country as a permanent tool in business and industry for every worker newly hired or long time employee. Thousands or even millions of illegal workers could be hiding in plain site in the workplace, as they have never been checked as a citizen or legal residency compliance? It also seems that the auditing of 1-9 forms around the country, that the federal authorities forget to mention that irregularities by employers only allows them to dismiss the applicant? The fact is that ICE raids have trailed off, so that any illegal workers–ARE NOT DEPORTED–they can move onto yet another workplace. Anybody who is suspected of being in this sovereign nation illegally should be detained and held for ICE inspection, not released into the public mainstream?

We all know that Fraudulent ID is so prevalent, that all security systems have been compromised, with even al-Qaeda murderers who brought down three passenger jets. On 9/11 these terrorists had in their possession numerous authentic drivers’ licenses and other picture ID. E-Verify is not perfect and can be cheated, but as it's modified, collecting more tools to compliment the enforcement program it success rate will become exemplary. Those hired workers who then find themselves under suspicion, can have errors resolved through any Social Security agency. That special interest groups have remained silent about this matter, doesn't need any explanation? most Americans want enforcement at our borders, the workplace, so contact your reluctant politician at 202-224-3121 MORE HONEST INFORMATION AT NUMBERSUSA & JUDICIAL WATCH. REMEMBER NO MORE BLANKET AMNESTIES!

E-Verify is essential. I am a supporter and I feel the government should continue to crackdown on employers with I-9 audits. E-Verify will only OPEN the job market for Americans by ridding the work-force of illegal aliens.

I agree that everify is what we need in this country. There were businesses in my area that were just audited last month by the government to check on their i9 paperwork. A few of them were fined because they were missing documents. The one business owner that I know called an outside company to review his i9 to make sure they were ok. Company he used was legal employer. He liked them, I may call them also.

The ACLU has something to say about everything that is passed to curb illegal immagration. I am sick of hearing about the rights of illegals. The last I checked they were not citizens so they don't have rights. The only way they will STFU is to make them all legal. So just let them cry..

Somebody needs to start a petition on letting Arizona's immigration law to stay and telling other states to follow. All I see is petitions against the law. Maybe if we have alot of signatures of people that are for it then the politicians will see they are doing the right thing. Well considering the law is in Arizona and it borders Mexico who would have guessed that the illegals would be mexican. What is wrong with America these days???? These illegals have more rights then us citizens. Why can't I break laws everyday and not go to jail.
