Labor Day With Hannity on a (Flattened) Mountaintop? Yeah, That’s America!

No plans for Labor Day? The coal industry has you covered.

At no cost to the public, the heavyweights of the industry are putting on the Friends of America Rally, a one-day country music extravaganza in Southern West Virginia featuring the talents of Hank Williams Jr. and John Rich, among others.

Just good, wholesome, blue-jeans-and-Copenhagen fun, right? Wrong. This is America in 2009. There will be a political agenda.

So Fox News’ Sean Hannity will also be attending; Ted Nugent is the emcee; and the event is taking place on what once was an Appalachian peak, since flattened by a mountaintop mining operation. Oh, and folks are also invited to sign onto a petition, sponsored by the National Mining Association, against the House climate change bill.

“Support America,” the invite implores. “Wear Red, White or Blue to the Rally!”

It'll be funny to hear the refrain 'global warming is a myth' or 'junk science', while the temperature that day is expected to be ten degrees higher than the average.

Ok. How about Man Made Global Warming is a ridiculous myth.

The sun's rays and their cyclical nature are the main cause responsible for our weather variations. I believed those ridiculous Man Made Global Warming lies for years.

They I grew up.

I guess John Prine won't be playing take me back to Muhlenberg County at the shindig. How much fun can a herd of reactionary ttubholes have on a man-made plateau?

Was looking for information on how to attend. Why do you have to slam the event?

Glenn Beck is supposed to make a surprise appearance dressed in children's lederhosen and sing the Book of Job using his famous Scooby Doo cartoon voice. He will also finally make the case that West Virginia must lose it's statehood due to its Communist ties back in the 1930s. Glenn will hand out free red, white and blue tape recorders to all the kids so they can gather evidence at home to help fight liberalism.

People are bashing the event because all the speakers were once global warming deniers. People are bashing because the main sponsor's CEO has been accused of BUYING West Virginian judges by the supreme court. People are bashing because this rally that suppossed will help keep jobs in WV is a lie because the coal dominated economy of West Virginia is it's downfall. Despite $118 million in coal-mining annual income, West Virginia has the nation’s lowest median household income, worst educational services, worst social assistance, the highest population with disabilities, and nearly a quarter of West Virginia children in poverty. That's why we're bashing. There are no 'friends of america' leading this rally.
