If Congress couldn't penetrate Reagan's elaborate defenses and make Iran/Contra stick to him, there's almost no way anyone of higher rank than Lyndie England will ever pay a penalty for torture and abuse.

"When the evidence is all in, it may prove that all the conduct surrounding America’s descent into torture was proper, protected by good-faith legal defenses. But it’s too early to responsibly reach that conclusion. Investigation is what allows such a conclusion to be reached."<br><br>All I can say is that this is the only way to get to the truth, and all Americans should be in favor of that, regardless of party affiliation.

Rarely does the phrase "..or should have known..." ring truer than in a legal opinion prepared by the president's lawyer regarding the exact location of the boundary between criminal and legal acts the president intends to order others to commit. There's no excuse for imprecise instructions in such a case; these are tantamount to ordering the crime. The precedent was well set by the Nuremburg judges.
