That Cheney has been allowed to set the terms of the reality to be discussed is not just semantics it is the obesiance of the talking heads to all things on high. The premise should be was it illegal, and was its illegality made deliberately “legal” by Cheney's underlings via Attenbury and Libby at Cheney's behest? The path set in motion was one of power begets power and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Now, we are at a point in that path where a new president of limited life experience is grappling with expediency and the ethic upon which his rule will progress and be judged. Should he not make an ethical stand all is for naught.

Dunno that an obvious admission of guilt is really a red herring.

Torture that "works" is as much a war crime as torture that fails, or torture that "works" to coerce the false confessions and accusations necessary to feed one's paranoia, political goals, and pocketbook.

Anyway, something sure smells fishy. Throughout the DC beltway.

I think the responsibility lies at the top of the administration that asked for torture to begin by renaming it as “enhanced interrogation techniques”, (even Ronald Regan, called the practice of torture “abhorrent”), is anyone surprised that Cheney is now crying about the investigations.
