Senate Democrats negotiating health care reforms with Sen. Charles Grassley are finding out the hard way that the Iowa Republican, while boasting a reputation for reaching across the aisle, appears hard set on supporting GOP leadership above bipartisan compromise.

Not only is Grassley threatening to vote against the bill — even a bill he supports — if it doesn’t gain enough GOP backing, but his home-state recess tour has found him echoing false GOP accusations that the Democrats’ plans would empower the government to ration services and euthanize seniors. Many health policy experts say the behavior is indication that Grassley — the senior Republican on the Senate Finance Committee who’s up for reelection next year — has bowed to pressure from conservative colleagues to oppose the health care overhaul in favor of more incremental reforms. Or none at all.
“The hard-core Republicans are pretty hard core and so he is hearing a lot from them and less from others,” Michael Bailey, political science professor at Georgetown University, said in an email.
David Mayhew, professor of political science at Yale University, pointed out that Grassley’s GOP colleagues aren’t the only ones applying the pressure. Constituents at animated town hall gatherings this month have also made clear their reservations with the Democrats’ reform plans, and Grassley has already held four such events, with 16 more planned for next week. “Grassley seems to be drifting to an anti position on this health-care drive,” Mayhew said in an email. “That is not surprising … Right now, the median voter in Iowa must be quite nervous about this drive. The median voter in any upcoming Republican primary in Iowa is more than nervous.”
The comments arrive as the nation’s health care spending continues on its unsustainable skyward path, and the Democrats, behind a fervid push from the Obama administration, are proposing sweeping reforms to rein it in. Four congressional committees — three in the House and one in the Senate — have already passed reform proposals. Only the Senate Finance panel has yet to contribute a bill. As a result, all eyes this month are on the Gang of Six, the bipartisan group of Finance members charged with crafting a compromise.
Grassley, a member of that bunch, issued a statement Wednesday reiterating the importance of coming up with a bipartisan bill. “Something as big and important as health care legislation should have broad-based support,” Grassley said. “So far, no one has developed that kind of support, either in Congress or at the White House. That doesn’t mean we should quit. It means we should keep working until we can put something together that gets that widespread support.”
But that call for widespread support is making some observers anxious, particularly in the wake of comments by Sen. Jon Kyl (Ariz.), the Senate’s second-ranking Republican, vowing to oppose the Democrats’ proposal unless they scrap the current plan and start anew. “There is no way Republicans are going to support a trillion dollar bill,” Kyl told reporters.
In an interview with National Review Wednesday, Grassley fingered four policy priorities he wants from the final bill: the absence of a public insurance plan, protections against rationing, assurances that Washington won’t disrupt the doctor-patient relationship, and tort reform.
Yet, to the surprise of many health care experts, Grassley is also threatening to vote against a health reform bill — even one he backs — if it doesn’t win enough votes within the Republican caucus. “If I can’t negotiate something that gets more than four Republicans,” he told MSNBC Monday, “I’m not a very good representative of my party.”
Julius Hobson, former lobbyist for the American Medical Association and now a senior policy analyst at the Washington law firm Bryan Cave, said that stipulation, by hinging Grassley’s support on whether guys like Kyl get on board, leaves Democrats with little power of negotiation.
“That’s a really big deal,” Hobson said. “That comment alone may have done [substantial] harm to the process.”
Jonathan Oberlander, health policy professor at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, echoed that message, warning that any bill capable of winning 15 or 20 Republicans would lose too many Democrats to pass. Such GOP support won’t be possible, he said, “unless the legislation falls far, far short of what most of the Democratic caucus supports.”
Grassley’s office didn’t respond to requests for comment, but issued a statement Wednesday reiterating the Iowa senator’s commitment to fighting for a bill that a substantial number of Republicans would support.
Not that Grassley isn’t capable of political independence. In 2007, for example, he bucked both the Bush administration and Republican leadership by leading the unsuccessful bipartisan effort to reauthorize the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. Revealing the limitations of that independent streak, however, he ultimately voted with GOP leaders against SCHIP’s renewal when it came up again in January, arguing that the expansion was too broad and would encroach on private insurance markets. Further displaying his party-line feathers, in 2003 it was Grassley, then-Finance Committee chairman, who pushed through controversial Republican legislation creating Medicare’s prescription drug benefit and the Medicare Advantage program, both of which took steps toward privatizing the popular Medicare program. The American Conservative Union rates Grassley with a lifetime score of 83.
“More often than not he is a reliable conservative Republican, especially on economic issues, which may be at the core of his discomfort with the health care bill,” David P. Redlawsk, political scientist at Rutgers University, said in an email.
The historic relationship between Grassley and Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) is an unusually close one, riding straight into this year. Baucus has gone out of his way to appease his counterpart throughout the health reform debate, delaying release of the bill until September so the sides could iron out differences. Yet Grassley has reportedly balked this month over a face-to face meeting between members of the Gang of Six. Moves like that have left many health policy experts wondering if, on this health reform drive, the committee’s working relationship isn’t deteriorating.
Oberlander said that Grassley’s eyebrow-raising behavior has created “the appearance of a strain” in the bipartisan working relationship among the Finance leaders.
“You have the Republican who’s supposed to be the most cooperative, and he’s out there talking about death panels,” he said.
An impasse in the Finance Committee could have serious consequences. Without Grassley’s endorsement of the bill, there are real questions whether a sweeping health reform proposal stands a chance in the upper chamber, where 60 votes will be required to defeat a likely GOP filibuster. Although the Democrats have a 60-member majority, it’s uncertain whether ailing Sens. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) would be available to vote.
Taking a lesson from the Clinton administration’s failed health reform push in 1993 and 1994, Obama has been careful not to make specific policy demands, instead laying out broad goals he wants the reforms to accomplish. But, as the thorny Finance panel debate has revealed, that strategy has its perils as well. Some observers are beginning to wonder if the White House is being aggressive enough in its push for a health system overhaul.
“If Mr. Obama wants to jettison the now-weakened public plan to dampen overheated opposition,” editorialists at The New York Times wrote Wednesday, “he should say what he will insist on instead.”

$1.042trillion (cost of reform) + $245bn (cost to reflect annual pay raise of docs) = $1.287bn (actual cost of reform).
$583bn (the revenue package) + $80bn (doughnut hole) + $155bn (savings from hospitals) + $167bn (ending subsidies for insurers) + $277bn (ending medical fraud, a minimum of 3%) = $1.257trillion + the reduced tax on the wealthiest = why not ? (except for magic pill, an outcome-based payment reform & IT effects and so forth)

If a Republican marches in lockstep? What are you smoking? President Obama is giving every opportunity for Republicans to negotiate in good faith. They have failed miserably. For every concession that has been made by Democrats on this issue (starting with single-payer before the negotiations even began) the Republicans have come back with nothing and ask for more. That is not exactly principled. And, your right wing jewishworldview link doesn't change that fact.

This statement has severely shaken my faith in the ability of OUR REPRESENTATIVES!!!! to function correctly in any way. Grassley was not elected to represent the Republican Party, he was elected to represent the people of Iowa, where I live. This is absolutely absurd; this country truly has lost its sense of proportion and its sense of direction.

Senator Grassley is a prime example of why we need term limits on Congress. Congress is so full of graft paid Senators that the normal public does not stand a chance of getting representation. Example .. Senator Baucus has received 3.8 million this year from the Insurance Industry, therefore they own his ass and he has been in Congress for 30 years, who is kidding who here?

The Repubs just keep shooting themselves in the feet. Grassley has just become an anachronism. Baucus and Conrad try to present themselves as bipartisan, but to what end? H.R. 3200 is dead in the water. There is no confidence in this bill, and considering that no one will vote for it, it seems silly that so many are still up in arms about it.
I'm willing to wait til' they come back from break, and watch the fireworks. I'm rooting for single-payer, myself, but at this point, anything is better than the status quo.

What is crazy to me is when the Republican talking heads say how important politically it is to hand the President Obama a loss here. I was watching Fox just to see what their talking points are. Write your representatives no matter what side you are on. This should be about health care reform and not about political gamesmanship.

Hi guys! C'mon now, don't be so hard on Faux. I find watching Beck is the best part of the day! I laugh so hard at the stretches he makes, the unintelligible dots he tries to connect, the invisible people he wants us all to be afraid of. Even his misquotes are hilarious! We're watching someone go slowly insane on the air. Now THAT'S a reality show!
As for the rest, their cred is being whittled away by their refusal to report the other side WITHOUT politicizing it. Not even MSNBC, which has been accused of misrepresentation, does that. For the detractors…..It's not the politics shows, like Beck, Olbermann, Matthews, O'Reilly, Maddow or Hannity I'm talking about, here. Just the news, folks, just the news.

A month ago, I removed a walnut-sized cyst from my neck, doing the surgery myself. I have been taking care of my health care needs for decades, simply because whether I have insurance or not, I cannot pay the horrendous debt that always results. The fact of any kind of insurance in this country is that it insures the doctor or the hospital. They get paid, while the supposed insured gets a staggering bill.
On the other hand, anyone who wants to see how the federal government would handle health care needs only to look at how the federal government handles anything else. The Veterans Administration is a health care program provided by the federal government. Why should anyone expect a health care administration (“czar”) to be operated differently than is Internal Revenue Service?
All of this governemnt by corporation nonsense will end only when people take back control of their money. When the public stops paying – both the government criminals and the corporate criminals who own government – will this outrage end. When people organize all of a doctor's or hospital's patients, and inform the “health care provider” that his charges are too much and until they can be afforded by everyone, they won't use their services or pay for them, the prices will come down. That applies across the board, to lawyers, business (Wal-Mart, for instance), and the rest.
It applies to government, too: when people refuse to pay taxes – apply for extension after extension, for instance, and fight every IRS ruling – the government will shrink. It will bring home billions of dollars worth of bases, seven hundred fifty-two in a hundred thirty of the world's one hundred ninety countries, too.
When people begin growing their own food, repairing their own cars, refusing to buy nonsensical, just because it is the latest thing nonsense products, they will again control the economy and their money.
People always have the government and nation they deserve.

Pay It Forward Petition
Before we get in to the petition I wish to share a thought or two, this petition is because that we see and we know with all of our souls that because of a Supreme Court Ruling against a moment of silence within the school and the Pledge to the United States Flag, that because of this, that a vacuum was created and it was replaced.
1.For years State and Government Officials saw into this and even though the increasing violence in schools was noted, Officials still refused to acknowledge the fact of a connection of laws created against God and the development of human life.
2.From my understanding that men and woman acknowledge the Creation Of The Constitution , The Bill Of Rights, and Our independence Day , that through our work we give thanks to God.
3.We understand how it came about that the Court ruled against the name of God but you were wrong. It is a God Given Right and a Constitutional Right for people to be of free will and to not believe in God. What is lost is respect, that over 80% per cent of the world believes in God and it is a infringement of the laws of God and the Constitution to take the name of God out of schools.
4.Because it is a public school dose not withstand the weight of the infringement created by the Court.
5.The moment of silence in schools is a right and it is a choice that a child has and not to be forced upon them as a you have to do. The differences of Church should not be in school, because we are of many faiths.
6.The term Public Schools falls under a concept created by the Dakota Sioux Tribe ,For as long as the grass grows and the water flows that this land will be ours. Public Schools do not belong to the system of a Government Institution. The creation of public schools date back to when people lived by candle light.
7. It is funded by American tax dollars and it is and for The People Of The United States Of America.
If I was to speak to Congress and the Court I would say, “ What the hell is a matter with you, you saw what was done and you refused to undo your error, what the hell is a matter with you.”

You must understand that if a person choses to be as one with God it will be, but if a person choses to be as one with evil….. F.A.S.C. Concepts in and for Pay It Forward is a 2 part petition. In support of the Pay It Forward is to do something good within a action or a idea and then have another pay it forward the same good intention. Within or web site it is clear of all our goals. Private Schools for children lost to the streets, Asking H.U.D. To help put families back into homes, build a forum through a health care issue that needs to be for the people according to their needs.
I have allowed a issue to get in my way and our goals. I am truly sorry but our web site is being worked on as you read this. Not never one time have we ever asked for you to put your faith into what we write, but we do ask if you see into this, to put your faith into yourself of how to build on this to make it work and to keep it safe from scams.

There will come a time in a persons life that they will look into their self and look for things that is good. It may be for a woman for a child or for God and Country.
I know without a doubt because of law created to remove prayer from schools that our children are murdered in schools. And because of laws created against the Flag Of America that people lost respect for our own laws. This is to stay as it is, we must remove God from the Court Houses {to swear by.}

What is important to remember, these insurance companies need to merge as one and take control of this issue of cost that starts from the builders of of medications, and items used in treatment of the sick and injured. If there is a kind of sir. charge that puts the cost of a,lets say a needle from whole sale of a $ 1.00 to a cost of $2.00, this is a double of the price for profit against the health care troubles we face.
Health Care Companies can help build this United Health Care Forum or sit back and let Government Officials build laws to govern them.

I had to wait for this Bill to be passed in order to show the Republican Party and GOP and FRC Action that it is the voice of the people that guides the destiny of this Country.
As predicted , the first stages of the Health Care Bill was passed. Why, you ask ? It is because people wish to be seen for their in put of a view and not unite. What is lost is respect with in a concept of { Freedom Of Choice } to be a part of this system or not, with in this Health Care Force Pay Matrix.
What is offered by FASC Concepts is the Freedom Of Choice, because we feel it is unconstitutional to force pay into the failures of Health Care Insurance Companies and then Tax that money. As you can see our elected officials are paying little attention to the public. As I reach out to my computer and I knock , knock, knock on the screen, and I say is there any body out there?
This Health Care issue keeps taking turns and twist that bewilder the mind in thoughts. This $100 trillion dollar system ,as it would seem, I am counting up to $ 8 trillion 682 billion Dollars so far. One guy emailed me and he is up to $27 Trillion dollars.
You see when Harry Reid added a extra ….almost, $2 Trillion dollars in a tax forum, this through my numbers off with the 1 to 3 year spread of taxes.
Lets show you this way seeing how I run out of fingers to count on and I do not feel like taking my shoes off…..
to get a $4 Trillion dollar tax spread, it is based at a 0.25% up to 4 years.
To be able to see the amount taxed in one year as a whole at 50% is around $8.2 Trillion to $8.8 Trillion, please remember according to Government Officials this is to be a spread tax, 3 to 10 years.. There is over 10 thousand companies I have not even got to yet. So lets take this $ 8 trillion 682 billion Dollars and forget about the other figures, reach into your mind and say ,1 to 3 to 10 years Tax against the Health Care System, then take this 10% tax against the almost $4 Trillion Dollars, your factor must be a multiplication. Then you will see this Tax factor as net value of that system. But of course Government Officials will not show the a net value of a system or that one company, this wold make it to easy for the People to follow the Tax Dollar.
Remember this tax dollar does not include the split petition of the tax forum of increases in other areas, in the name of Health Care Reform. This tax forum I, or we can have very little effect against.
As for theses hidden taxes, they are not hidden. They are built into a split petition. They are meant not to be seen, only revealed as the Progressive Capital Tax Forum works the system in order to not over burden the money system. What is lost is trust because Government Officials by considering the public slow witted and as for this Bill, I want to read the Law that is to represent the Bill. This is because one word has a directive and a code and a sentence can lead to a different truth in concept.
So now it begins, the Civil Rights Law Suits and Constitutional Suits. We are not talking just a few law suits we are talking thousands will be filed because of the Freedom Of Choice is taken away and a Tax against money that is not Government Officials Rights to Tax, the Health Care Money for Coverage.

To help cover the sick and the poor is a FASC Concept that states that to build a Health Care Forum within our Government Institution is a Peoples right to do so and this is Protect Under the Constitution as a Human and Civil Right. So in plan words if the poor and the sick could only afford to pay $5.00 to $10.00 per month this would to bring a balance toward the broken tax system, to add up this number 32 million to 100 million sick and poor people x $5.00 per month. This will place back into the system $116 million $to 500 million dollars per month. The cause and effect of this will reduce the purposed Health Care Tax Forum, to bring about a reduced effect so not to a over burden system. Take my faith in this and almost all the poor and sick would be happy to pay in and help rebuild the United States failed tax system. What is offered by FASC Concepts is the Freedom Of Choice, because we feel it is unconstitutional to force pay into the failures of Health Care Insurance Companies and then Tax that money. This is how we saw into the concept of the Federal Act Security Card merged with what we call ,a Health Care Reform Stimulus Package. The inter facing of the two will build a security on two fronts first and ut most important the people 2nd., It will build a net work that in it concept is a anti crime / war prevention forum to maintain the National Security Of The United States Of America.
