Don’t believe obummer’s lie that there will not be death panels. Why do I know? There already are death panels in Oregon’s universal care system! They have had real people be refused treatment on account of cost. Those same people were however offered suicide drugs.

Interesting. Then it would follow that a public option is no threat to private insurers, since no one would sign up for it if it was so ineffective and has such long wait times. But then why are the private insurers freaking out???

As far as your Cuba example the same could be said here. The wealthy get top notch care, but lots of people lose their coverage after they get sick. I read about one woman, a grandma no less, that was told she failed to report a “precancerous condition” because of a visit for acne. Her doc even wrote the insurer but they still rescinded her. They did all this AFTER her diagnosis with breast cancer. I guess she wasn't worth covering (corporate earnings report, don't-cha know?).

The Republican base is easily motivated by fear tactics. It would be interesting to see if there are any psychological explanations behind the fact that the base is so susceptible to conspiracy theories, lies, distortions, and fear tactics. I'm pretty disappointed in Grassley on this, but it goes to show that bipartisanship is pretty much useless. The Reps are clearly not negotiating in good faith.
