Obama Pledges Health Care Reform by End of Year
Wednesday, August 05, 2009 at 1:14 pm
The Associated Press reports that at an event in Wakarusa, Ind., President Obama today vowed to deliver health care reform by the end of 2009.
Obama on Wednesday visited hard-hit Indiana to announce $2.4 billion in taxpayer grants to create electric cars and tens of thousands of jobs. But he also pledged action on an ambitious health care overhaul that he argues would help stabilize the nation’s fiscal health.
Obama said: “I promise you, we will pass reform by the end of this year because the American people need it.”
Of course, with one bill already passed by the House Energy and Commerce Committee and two others being considered in the Senate — and conservatives and interest groups mobilizing against dramatic changes to the existing system — what that reform ultimately looks like is the million-dollar (or is it the trillion-dollar?) question.

Obama is not concerned about what is best for Americans. He just wants his socialist health care passed before the next election. He has not been bipartisan or transparent about any aspects of this legislation.
We are in big trouble while he moves like a dictator towards telling us what he is doing — forget what Americans want or need
Amazing “change” — He became President — we didn't give him a mandate saying he could take away our voices and our freedoms.
The majority of Americans will be damaged by this — especially seniors.

Nice that you've woken from your eight year nap. You'd be amazed at the things that happened while you were sleeping. This Obama guy you describe sounds suspiciously familiar…

Americans are too stupid to support reform of a health care system that keeps us in second-world conditions. We love long lines in the ER, getting booted from health insurance coverage when we lose our jobs, and paying 1/3rd of our national income on health care. Not to mention allowing insurance company accountants that make millions in bonuses to be the final judges over our health care needs. Other industrialized nations look at us and shake their heads, wondering why we reward insurance companies that beat us down and take our money like muggers. We're too stupid to pass this, bottom line.

Do you think there are not going to be major conflicts of interest with anything that they cram down the American public right now?
No one is saying what we have is great — it needs change — especially in the areas you suggest.
What is being suggested is for us to jump out of the boiling pot into the fire.
The motives in this Congress and Administration go deep — bleeding heart liberals have their own agenda.
You think long lines are bad? Try waiting months for an appointment when you have a heart condition or need surgery.
The money is the issue. Not the care we are getting. The reforms need to be in specific areas.
Right now, many Americans are without health care. And they wait in line in E.R.'s with lots of non-citizens / illegals. All of this should be addressed before imposing a socialist system on everyone, including the people who have had the same coverage for years and are satisfied.
Attack the problem of health care — not the way of life of Americans.

Americans have spoken and 70 percent want the health care situation fixed. Obama hasn't taken anything from you-you certainly seem to be able to continue to complain-and I can't imagine a scenario that would keep you from participating in Ponzi schemes, extortion, fraud, and graft, which is what we have right now with the private insurance industry. Or should we just smile and keep paying the additional 25-40 percent annual increases in insurance while they reduce our coverage and find ways to ditch people who need health care? That's not freedom and its not justice, its Mafia rule.
And seniors get Medicare, a GOVERNMENT RUN program, with Medicaid, and what's the biggest beef? That some doctors are dropping medicare patients because it doesn't cover the payments on their Porsche collection.
It's obvious to me who the dictators are here-the moneyed elites who pay for lobbyists, the wealthy who push Fox style propaganda into the willing minds of American ignoramuses, and the grifters who not only benefit from the current disaster but are funding more graft and corruption with the excessive profits and benefits they get from sticking it to us, the American people. If it would make you happy, could we have health care reform, and if you want to throw money away there is always rippies, bingo, and lottery tickets.

“”I promise you, we will pass reform by the end of this year because the American people need it,” Obama said”
Being a Conservative Republican, I will determine what I need. There isn't an amateur politician/community organizer on the planet that's going to tell me what I need.

This is not rocket science as Buzz Aldrin says.
My mother, Evelyn Calvert, suffered for NINE MONTHS, when she couldn’t swallow after a stroke Sun Heatlhcare Group Inc out of New Mexico caused when their broken equipment in a Newport Beach Calif nursing home didn't reflect her actual blood pressure reading and she missed medication. But it was MRSA she caught at that facility that eventually killed her after a horrific struggle to stay alive that went on for many months. This was after SUN refused to repair / replace known broken equipment, I’d warned them of in writing, while under a California state injunction. They did nothing to respond to the critical situation for 1 yr. after I wrote them to help. Sun's blatant disregard for human life = wilful misconduct (making me eligible for treble damages). Daniel Leipold, my former late attorney, did threaten me into signing only a $55,000 agreement in mediation (based on damages of only fraud). He dropped charges for wrongful death and elder abuse while I was suffering a personal turmoil of pancreatic cancer and subsequent surgery at UCLA. It was a rare form that I was lucky they caught early and I survived! I sued him for malpractice and won. Sadly, he died two weeks after learning I’d retained an attorney to sue him.
I dont’ think it’s coincidence that SUN also cheated the taxpayers of the State of Calif for millions of dollars in fines the DOJ would have fined had this case gone to trial. And that the Dept of Health didn’t fine the usual $100,000 for her death eiher.
This is what Corporate America can do today. Greed and money and power is what it’s all about. Healthcare reform?? How about corporate and political reform too?

I am sorry for what you have endured, your health issues and the loss of your mother.
I agree with you that the “system” does not work — and you have shown many inefficiencies, negligence in the nursing home care (government oversight not working) and in our laws.
In all of your references, it was the government agencies that didn't do their work. Their “supervision” and delayed responses are the bane of Americans, from the “red tape” to unqualified employees. At least you won a round and are a survivor.
What you did accomplish, you did on your own.
The way things look in the new healthcare reform, your mother would not have been helped. After the stroke, if she was elderly, any issues would be moot — according to Obama, a senior should take the “red pill or the blue pill”, because treatment would be against gov't policy.
In your case, in addition to your own resources, you needed honest legal help.

Yes! — Obviously, Obama wants to push this through before his “glow” wears off — and who knows who the biggest beneficiaries will be.
I'm for making MY decisions and don't need his permission to talk about the “end of life” choices.

I have a hard time understanding how anyone other than the executives and shareholders of the private insurance companies could think that our current healthcare system is meeting the needs of the American people. I'm a medical professional myself and support universal health care reform. I've written my Congressman, Senators, and the President on more than one occasion and have also called their offices to voice my support for reform. I've also spent countless hours researching what the best overall way is to bring down long term costs in order to provide everybody accessible and affordable health care. Here's my solutions – http://bit.ly/9QLV8.

We need healthcare reform, let me promise you. Overcrowded prisons? I have the solution! Place the inmates in nursing homes along with the corrupt corporation officers who make poor decisions that kill patients and aren't punished. Breakfast? Up at 5:30, sit in wheelchair for hrs waiting, b cuz understaffed and 5 CNAs cannot dress 59 patients in one hr from 7-8 am; Thirsty? Sure, I'll be back in a few hours; U need a bathroom? We use diapers here; Hungry? great food; Need a Dr.? call 911; Fever? Thermometers broken; Hot? HVAC condemned; Cold? HVAC condemned; Can't breathe? No ventilation n here, did I tell u the HVAC is condemned?; BTW Oxygen runs out regularily, & no staff to monitor it; Looks like u had a stroke? opps, R b/p equip. broken; Got MRSA? opps sorry again, this time you die. Sun Healthcare Group Inc out of New Mexico, runs Sunbridge and Harborside Nursing Homes throughout the country. They did all of the above to my mother, Evelyn Calvert, and she died a long slow horrific death. This isn't rocket science, Buzz would say.
