‘America’s Hottest Governor’ No More

The final Hays Research Poll on former Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska) finds her popularity with Alaskans tumbling just into negative territory; 48 percent of voters view her favorably, 47 percent view her unfavorably. It’s a strikingly polarized survey, with a similar one-point gap between the people who view her “very unfavorably” and “very favorably”—31-30.

Before she was picked as Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) running mate, Palin’s favorable rating was at 80 percent.

That “unfavorable” response, Mr. Weigel, almost certainly reflects the participants' regret over their perception that she is “abandoning” them to seek a broader platform from which to speak and act. They'd like her to be Alaska's “stay at home mom” instead of going down into the lower 48 to smite the socialists.

The notion that the current eye-popping unfavorable number somehow reflects regret over her decision to “seek a broader platform” does not hold up to rudimentary scrutiny.

Her popularity has waned steadily ever since she was exposed to the glare of the national media. You can track that all the way back to her exposure on the RNC stage. As soon as America started to look at her, Sarah Palin showed her ugly side.

People in Alaska had no idea about these things because there is no media coverage of elected officials. The state's largest paper doesn't even have offices in Juneau, the capital.

It wasn't Democratic smear merchants tarnishing her image; most ethics complaints were brought by Republicans. Most journalists who expose her idiocy are Alaskan residents.

If her popularity was only just now starting to drop, you could plausibly argue that it is somehow a result of constituent disappointment that she has decided to go on the rubber chicken circuit.

But of course, no one believes Palin has any intention of seeking a broader platform. She wants to seek a paycheck from allowing someone else to write a book about her feelings about God and guns. Good thing she hired a religious writer to cover the part she knows nothing about.

Alaska has long beeb the top beneficiary of lower 48 socialism (taxpayers). Why would Sarah bite the hands that have fed Alaska for the past 177 years? Because she's either supremely stupid or a vindictive hockey mom; my guess is both.

Nah. The Alaska state government (no counties in Alaska; didja know that? they putter along with one whole less layer of corruption than we enjoy in the lower 48) gets about all of its revenue from raw materials extraction, overwhelmingly oil.

That's why Alaskans hate the hell out of the Watermelons (“green on the outside, red to the core”) and their tree-hugging crap about preventing exploration and extraction in the ANWR.

A lot of flyover country – particularly in the “Jackelope Rebellion” states – have solid reason for hating Mordor (or are they still calling it “Washington City”?) so much. Los federales (“press one for English”) hold humongous chunks of land all over the Red states, deny those lands to the people who live in those states, take those lands completely out of those state governments' tax bases, and do much to completely ruin the economies in those states in order to “service” whining Watermelon constituences on the Left Coast and in frontier states like Connecticut and New Jersey and Taxachusetts.

So you just keep on calling Sarahcudda “stupid” and “vindictive” and a “hockey mom,” little girl. The way you “Liberals” have been fucking over the folks in the Red states (ever look at a red/blue voting map parsed out by counties, kiddo? I guarantee you a perfectly gut-clenching experience if you do), that kind of version of your perfect nightmare is precisely what they'd love to shove down your throat.

Tuci, if you dislike republican then how come you defend Sarah?

Why, 'cause Sarahcudda gives you “Liberals” the most gaudy case of the flaming red ass I've seen since Reagan retired.

I do not agree with her on a mort of policy positions, leading with her opinion – though never explicitly expressed as such – on criminalizing a woman's election to voluntarily terminate her own pregnancy if that's what she's decided to do.

(( My objections to the “pro-life” putzelry is both moral (it's her body, not the property of “society” or the public) and practical (you think Homeland Security is bad? wait till we get “Pregnancy Police”), and that kind of “Father-knows-best” assholery went out with Robert Filmer. ))

But as I've said, the “Liberals” – who are cunning even if they're stupid – can sense how dangerous she is to them, and that just makes me kvell all over.

And test-taker shows that its not about making the nation better, its all about his raging assholism towards all things liberal. In another day another time he'd be marching around singing 'Tomorrow Belongs To Me', but thankfully America is a better nation than that.

Keep marching on proudly in your ignorance and hatred, Cletus! I'm sure a platform consisting solely of 'dem libruls are eeeeeevil' one hundred times over will win over a worried populace!

Nah. On the “making the nation better” side, the objective is:

A wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government, and this is necessary to close the circle of our felicities.

Nothing more, nothing less. A government set up to defend the individual human being's inalienable rights to life, to liberty, to property, and for no other purpose

And it's “Liberal,” sani. Always use the capital “L” and put it in quotes. Once upon a time – when the word liberal first came into political usage back in the 19th Century – liberal was the descriptor designated for one who defends individual rights against government tyranny.

Since the progressives (socialists/fascists/government-as-Santa-Claus) scum of the earth picked up “Liberal” as a term behind which to fan-dance their violations of individual rights past the bullshit filters of the average voter, you really shouldn't fling around the “L” word as if you were trying to come anywhere near the truth, okay?

And didn't I earlier note that “Tomorrow Belongs to Me!” (from Cabaret) is your own faction's charming little brownshirt anthem?

Mine is “Jefferson and Liberty.”

So, rejoice, Columbia's sons, rejoice!
To tyrants never bend the knee
But pledge your heart and hands and voice
To Jefferson and liberty!

Tuci, you're wrong if you are arguing that Alaska is self-sufficient. They receive quite a bit more federal money than they contribute.

Does this guy Tuci ever sleep? He is at it on this story. For being an “Independent” (basically Repubicans in disguise because they are so ashamed for voting W in twice), Tuci sure sticks up for the conservative movement. Hey Tuci, take a break and maybe a shower! Your time on this blog must not provide you the time for proper hygiene. Do it for you wife's sake. Other than your body odor, you basically stink in general. I vote you the most caustic person on this earth! Like I have posted before, all I read from you is blah blah blah. Major bloviation of the english language filled with hate.

Aw, Paddy, you care. Yeah, the wife is on me all the time. I haven't had anything like a “normal” sleep/wake cycle for years. Got in the habit of grabbing sleep whenever possible as a resident, and decades of working the Emergency Department tends to turn the day/night thing upside-down. Almost certainly not good for me, but then, so is reading your shit, so what the hell?

Really chaps your ass to find a non-Republican (and, you bet your pointy little head that the Republicans – especially the Christers and the neo-cons – just hate the hell out of “God, but he's 'pro-choice' on EVERYTHING” guys like me) beating the shit out of you Obamaphile cement-heads on Weigel's threads, doesn't it?

Uh, they're not silenced, RA. And – honest – I don't want 'em silenced. Individual rights, remember? Means everybody's rights, each as an individual, even when they're dead-from-the-chin-up wrong, as long as they're neither taking nor threatening actions that violate the equal rights – to life, to liberty, and to property – of others.

If we lose rule of law in the pursuit of constitutionalist objectives – just the way they do in pursuit of their Obamaphile fraudulences, socialist economic cancerousness, and “Mommy knows best” velvet fascism – we've lost everything we have a responsibility to defend.
