Tim Pawlenty Tells Some Jokes
Thursday, July 30, 2009 at 3:38 pm
Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-Minn.) is addressing an Republican National Committee meeting in San Diego right now, which so far has featured some of the less successful opening jokes of recent vintage. Rib-tickler number one:
President Obama is making great progress on climate change. He’s turning the political climate of our country back towards Republicans!
Number two:
In the eyes of many, President Obama is cool, cool, cool. But Americans are beginning to realize he is wrong, wrong, wrong.

These jokes clearly fall into the “so bad it's good” category. Just saying.

Hey, Tim Pawlenty! Don't give up your day job! …That's Sarah Palin's job!
Remember to tip your state's bridges!

I speak as a Minnesotan who has been watching Palwenty for a long time. Maybe he wasn’t funny in that speech, but he has made me chuckle a time or two. He’s no Al Franken, or Amy Klobuchar, but he is a decent speaker, an effective communicator, and frankly one of the GOP’s better politicians. I expect him to grow on non-Minnesota Republicans and therefore Democrats should take him seriously. Yes, I’m fully aware of how he has screwed over the state’s most vulnerable people, and how he won by narrow pluralities when Minnesota's third party grabbed a bunch of Democratic-leaners. Nonetheless, he’s about the only Republican of national stature who doesn’t tempt me to smugly smile at the Republicans considering such weak candidates.

Folks, the joke’s on YOU if Pawlenty (a former “moderate”, now desparately trying to become a Bible-thumper) becomes President. But I’ll say this — if Palin and Huckabee sit this one out, T-Paw has a great chance to scoop up lots of oogedy-boogedy voters in the Iowa caucus next year.
