Eric Cantor (and Michael Steele) Befriend Birther Orly Taitz (on Facebook)

Doug Mataconis, who has been watching Republicans accept birther lawyer Orly Taitz’s friend requests on Facebook, catches Taitz reacting to her newest friend — Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.).

I am in total disbelief and greatly honored. Eric Cantor, Republican whip, second ranked Republican congressman has joined congresswoman Mary Bono and became my friend on Facebook. To me it means that the leadership of the Republican party understands the importance of the issues and legal cases I brought forward.

Ken Cuccinelli, the Republican candidate for attorney general of Virginia, has also befriended Taitz. Politicians don’t exactly scour their friend lists or screen applicants — they rarely see the value in having a pruned-down list versus a huge, sprawling one, since they will end up as recipients of press releases — but Taitz has started to get some notoriety as a fringe figure who’s encouraging soliders to disobey their orders.

Update: Taitz follows up to brag that RNC chairman Michael Steele has accepted her friend request.

Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu, who I'll bet thing doesn't even know what Facebook is, has also accepted her friendship request.

I don't suppose it would EVER occur to her that maybe they accepted her friend request just to keep an eye on her? (As in the old “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer” concept….) Not that I have any reason to think that's why – I doubt any of them (or, more likely, the staffers who manage their Facebook pages) gave it any thought at all, but it's at LEAST as plausible an explanation as them accepting her friend request because they support her, no?

I wonder if Orly Taitz isn't just some kind of Borat/Bruno knockoff, doing crazy stuff to see just how far the other crazies will go. Or a One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest re-enactor. Maybe she'll take some of these folks fishing out of Depoe Bay, like Jack Nicholson did.

If you research your history, the white-man has stole this country and forced the black-man to make it. In the result of this, my family has earned the rights to be in this country. As you know the reason the President birth certificate is in the news because he is black. This is the only reason…

To all the birthers in La, La Land, it is on you to prove to all of us that your assertion is true, if there are people who were there and support your position then show us the video (everyone has a price), either put up or frankly shut-up. I heard Orly Taitz, is selling a tape (I think it’s called “Money, Lies and Video tape”). She is from Orange County, CA, now I know what the mean when they say “behind the Orange Curtain”, when they talk about Orange County, the captial of Conspiracy Theories. You know Obama has a passport, he travel abroad before he was a Senator, but I guess he fooled them too?

Taitz looks like she was in a car accident with a makeup kit, a bottle of bleach, and Barbara Streisand's wardrobe circa 1978.

It's hilarious that Republicans in the leadership have embraced this loon. It's a sad sign of how depleted of actual leaders the GOP is. Eric Cantor? Don't make me laugh.

As for Taitz, she's truly loony tunes. I feel sorry for her poor children. Imagine having a mother like that?!?

The Great Usurper is an illegal-immigrant & was a natural-born citizen-subject of Great Britain. Of course that was before he was adopted as Barry Soetoro in Indonesia where all his childhood memories exist before age ten. that was when he went to visit the Dunhams in Hawaii on an Indonesian passport & then stayed thru high school.

I agree that facebook friendship doesn’t mean anything. I bet they have more than 300 friends in facebook. I doubt they like all of them.
