Only Missed by a Fraction
Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at 4:40 pm
On June 29 and June 30, three leaders of one birther faction — the people who are empaneling “Citizens’ Grand Juries” to hand down utterly meaningless indictments of the president — walked around Washington handing their documents to members of Congress, cops, the White House, the FBI, and anyone else who looked like an authority figure.
The grand jury birthers have edited a video of the trip. The soundtrack is “Right Now” by Van Halen. Beyond: fail. (Video after the jump.)

Does any of these birthers have a rational explanation of why they think Magna Carta is law in the US?

What a bunch of wankers. “Right Now”? What is this, an elementary school motivational program from the 80's? I hope they know that they all those people they gave their little documents were laughing at them when they left.

I think the song “It's Only Make Believe” would be more fitting, don't you? LOL

This is not just any grand jury sports fans, it's a Super American Grand Jury. Fear them.
All the GOP has left are sociopaths, the homeschooled, and the clinically insane.

It's not just the “American Grand Jury” it's the “SUPER American Grand Jury!” Did these same people get this excited about illegal wiretapping? And correct me if I'm wrong, I seem to remember the Republicans floating around an idea about amending the Constitution to allow non-native born citizens to become President when discussing Schwarzenegger.

You libs got some learnin to do.
The Super American Grand Jury is indeed a legimate and Constitutionaly citizens group. It is a legal and certifed subsidary of the Justice League of America and convenes many citizen juries aboard an atomic powered jet and sometimes also meets in the Fortress of Solitude.
Geeze, try to at least learn some basic American history!

No, no, you're missing the point! This does not represent the entirety of their day in D.C.
It's edited down to show them at their *most impressive*.
LOLOLOL!!!

In previous decades, “personal autonomy” kooks would do hard-core stuff like stockpiling weapons and not paying their income taxes until the black helicopters took them away.
Nowadays they basically take part in self-esteem-building exercises like printing tee shirts and high-fiving each other at real world meetups. Then the run home and breathlessly post evidence video evidence that they weren't laughed at. Way to go everyone!
When did our extremists go emo? A few years back 9/11 truthers planned a “general strike” protest, and a couple dozen of them showed up in NYC wearing identical black tee shirts. In the photos they're just standing there, dazed and alone, each one them looking blankly in a random direction. It was like the Gin Blossoms cloned themselves into a militia.

Aren't they special. Er, I mean super. They went on a big trip and everything!
Did she give one of their “presentments” to a traffic cop? What's he going to do?
They really could have added some flames or lightning when they flashed TREASON on the screen. Come on people, this is serious!

why are conservatives always so bad at media production. I mean, yeah, these guys are nuts and all, but damn, that's some bad production value. Render your damn footage.
Also, “Super American Grand Jury?!?” Jesus Christ!!!
However, if they lined up the lyrics “miss a beat, you lose the rhythm to that ignorant troll waddling out a door on purpose, that was brilliant.

I'll take my “learnin'” from the courts, not from self-proclaimed constitutional experts. Here's what the district court thinks of the Super American Grand Jury:
“[G]rand juries are convened by the court for the district in which they sit. [Citation.] Grand jurors are also to be selected at random from a fair cross section of the district in which they are convened. [Citation.] The individuals who have made this presentment were not convened by this Court to sit as a grand jury nor have they been selected at random from a fair corss section of this district. Any self-styled indictment or presenment issued by such a group has no force under the Constitution or laws of the United States.”
Case closed.

They're ruining a perfectly good song by associating it with their fringe wankery.

Yes, because they say it is. Of course, in the real world, the Magna Carta doesn't constitute an enforceable law here or in England, but rather symbolically stands the basic proposition that the head of state is answerable to the people. That notion is embodied in our system by democracy and elections. We had one last year, but the birthers don't like the outcome, so they're frantically inventing legal reasons for why it doesn't count.

You can say what you want, but the court simply disagrees with your theory:
“[G]rand juries are convened by the court for the district in which they sit. [Citation.] Grand jurors are also to be selected at random from a fair cross section of the district in which they are convened. [Citation.] The individuals who have made this presentment were not convened by this Court to sit as a grand jury nor have they been selected at random from a fair corss section of this district. Before making any judgements people should read Pat Boon's editorial about truth and see Farah's movie “A Question of Eligibility” with an open mind.
