http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/9/143710/2...

Questions to ask Palin:

1. Do you believe that it was the intent of the Founders to establish a government that favors Christianity and Christians?

2. In a christian nation like the United States, if there is a legal dispute between a christian and a nonchristian, where the christian's position is grounded in christian principle, should a federal judge always favor the christian?

3. Is it possible that at some time in the future it may be necessary for christians in the United States to take up arms against nonchristians, in defense of christian principles?

4. Is it permissible for a christian to lie to a nonchristian, if the lie serves to help christian principles to prevail?

5. Is there any level of force that should NOT be used by a Christian leader in pursuit of christian goals?

Please also note that Tony Compolo is self described as a "Red Letter Christian" who believe that while they are strongly prolife, that it would not keep them for voting for a candidate who was not.

A Red Letter Christian would also have been strongly opposed to slavery, but would still vote for someone who thought it was ok to possess slaves.

Visit his site if you wish, as he is an interesting person, if sitting on the fence is your thing.

While no party is the party of Christianity Mr Obama is the first Dem Pres Candidate to court the Christian vote seriously in a while.

Wikipedia defines the Evangelical left as such: (Remember Wikipedia is written and added to by contribution of all people.)

Main articles: Evangelical left and Progressive Christianity

Typically, members of the evangelical left affirm the primary tenets of evangelical theology, such as the doctrines of Incarnation, atonement, and resurrection, and also see the Bible as a primary authority for the Church. Unlike most evangelicals, however, the evangelical left is generally opposed to capital punishment and supportive of gun control. In many cases, evangelical leftists are pacifistic. Some promote the legalization of gay marriage or laws protecting abortion on demand.
Evangelicals of both the right and left often utilize modern Biblical criticism (commonly of the lower variety).

Much of this attempt is for the democratic party to regain heavy losses of support in the south (the Bible Belt" due to disagreements with abortion, pacifism and other on the lefts ok list. There is also a growing concern within the party due to the teachings of the Catholic Church being ever increasingly vocal concerning abortion. That's why you now see most democrats now say that they themselves are against abortion but believe it's still a choice that's not theirs to make. (This does not help with me as I believe there is no choice to make with a child's life whether in a mother's arms or inside her body)
To me Christian beliefs would no longer be Christian beliefs if they were watered down as such.
For those reasons is why it's not working real well in the south either.
Most of what is still taking place is that the "Blue States" are becoming bluer and the red states are becoming redder.

Don't assume that all Evangelicals vote Republican.

Young, more politically engaged Evangelicals are working hard to get Obama elected. And not so young (I'm 42 and, yes, I am an Evangelical).

Tony Campolo, an Evangelical pastor who is highly respected, contributed to the construction of Obama's platform. Jim Wallis, an Evangelical pastor who wrote God's Politics and is the head of Sojourner's, is pro-Obama.

In fact, the Christian Left is alive and well and we haven't been this excited by a candidate for some time.

The press isn't picking up on it yet (except for a recent small article in Time Magazine). But out here in the trenches? We are fired up for sure :)

But is the Christian Right on board with Palin? Yep. They always vote Republican anyway. No news there.
