Anti-Abortion Activists: Hearing Outbursts Show That “The Grassroots Are Energized”

Amy Harder spoke to Charmaine Yoest, the president of Americans United for Life, before and after four anti-abortion protesters interrupted the Sotomayor hearings and were ejected from the room for misbehavior. Yoest — who’s the lone anti-abortion expert on the GOP’s witness list — didn’t sound too bothered.

The outbursts “underscore that the grassroots really are energized about this and are paying attention,” Yoest said in an interview during the lunchtime break at today’s hearing. … “If people are surprised about how much abortion is coming into play, maybe that’s because they haven’t been paying attention to her record,” Yoest said.

It’s unusual for someone who’ll be taking the stand to praise people who were arrested for trying to wreck the hearing.

Unusual? For a forced-birther? Nu-uh. These are the same people who support the right of gunmen to kill doctors who perform abortions. Why wouldn't they be OK with people breaking some silly old laws? God is on their side, after all.
