With the ‘Civilian Surge’ In Afghanistan
Monday, July 13, 2009 at 1:58 pm
Department of professional jealosy: Danger Room’s Nathan Hodge is in Kabul, about to do some reporting about Afghanistan’s “summer of the surge,” with an emphasis on who’s taking up the civilian side of the mission, like staffing the Provincial Reconstruction Teams. So far, Nathan’s just seeing jacked contractors hanging around the airport but it’s early yet. Nathan’s a solid reporter and I for one wish I was in Afghanistan right now, so I’ll be checking Nathan’s stuff early and often to get a feel for this important and frequently overlooked aspect of the strategy.

The blind leading the blind. And when will we learn that development activities centered out of the same military groups that are killing by accident or on purpose the friends and relatives of those we are there to help does not work. It didnt work in Vietnam where the idea came from and a foreign military occupational force cannot win the hearts and minds of the local people regardless of the amounts of money spent. People dont think like that. Hello?
