Sympathy for Sarah Palin
Friday, July 03, 2009 at 5:07 pm
Conservatives are having no trouble spinning Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-Alaska) surprise cut-and-run from her office as an act of personal heroism that will help her political career. Fox News anchor Stuart Varney, running the network’s coverage right now, has opened the gushers, saying that Palin “represented real people with real values” and that by resigning the way she did “she was speaking the way, I think, Americans want her to speak.”
- Rep. John Culberson (R-Texas), also on Fox, had fulsome praise for Palin, saying that she showed “backbone” by quitting her job, and that the fact that she “drove the left crazy” emphasized what a strong candidate she was.
- Mike Huckabee, who might be/have been a 2012 contender against Palin, said that “what she’s showing is what a lot of us loved about her: Her spunk.” He said that her supporters wouldn’t punish her decision: “They’re going to feel like she was, in essence, hounded from the opportunity to serve.”
- Patrick Ruffini, a Republican media strategist, tweeted: “Is the media / political environment now so bad that it is driving our candidates insane?”
- Kathryn Jean Lopez of National Review tweeted: “If she does want to reinvent herself a little, this could be a great sabbatical time.”

Ya know David, it’s not very different from what’s being done for the present administration…

Same way the theater of quitting her position overseeing Alaskan energy — due to someone else's troubling ethics — cast her as an outsider in her run for Governor. From state branding to national branding. The script hasn't changed much.

It might be helpful to review this partial list of the smears the MSM used against her.

Although I am hard-pressed to think of a particular issue on which I would agree with Mrs Palin, I am quite willing to give her the benefit of the doubt that she may just be making this decision with no particular roadmap in mind. However she is clearly clever, so she may have an extremely clear roadmap of where she wants to go from here.
Now if only I had my own website like Mr 24Ahead does, I could cleverly point people to a page outling the sins of others on this topic. Dare to dream Wieners, dare to dream…

I am NOT a Republican, nor am I a Democrat. Frankly, I'm so sick and tired of both that I wish the very words could be outlawed. I am strictly Independant in all matters, but In all of my many years on this earth, if there was ever a person worthy of the highest office in our land, it is Sarah Palin. She is a true and guiding light in the field of politics, and for that she has been harrassed, and vilified, she, her family, and especially her children insulted by smug, arrogant commentators who, for the most part, can't even find the rising morning sun on a clear day, and a gap toothed, so-called comedian who should spend more time out of sight toe tapping in some men's room with Larry Craig! All of those idiots who spent all that time filing frivolous ehtics complaints against her should be made to reimburse her for every penny she was forced to spend defending herself. The woman is remarkable, she is honest, she is intelligent, and I pray to God that she does run, and win, the next election as President of these United States.

Don't really agree with the list, but I did see portions of Ziegler's documentary, and I do really think its unfair that he captioned a picture of Sarah Palin with “Why Obama Got Elected.” Surely McCain played a role. :)

No offense but is this a real or a “tongue in cheek” comment?

Ben Able,
She has “street smarts”, but that's all you can say about her. Other than she is determined. You hope she wins the Presidential election in 2012. If she can't take the heat as Governor of AK how could she stand the “pressure and criticism” that comes with the White House.
She can't even construct a “cohesive' sentence. I don't dislike her, but I watched her press conference yesterday and wondered “What is she saying”? Her grammar is “horrible”. She has “confidence” and very little “competence”. But she's smart enough to ride the Republican “gravy” train as long as she can. Frankly, I hope she makes “speeches”, writes her book and becomes “incredibly” rich. I just don't think she should attempt to run this country.

What about all the smears she put out since Day One. She was proud of that “pit bull” image until she got her pit bull “Butt” kicked. She was on the campaign trail spreading as much “hate and lies” as she could. Everyone is suppose to be “fragile with her”. The right talks about how she received “hardball” questions in interviews. (Like what newspapers, do you read?) Maybe if she made herself available to media beyond conservative programs that don't really challenge her or Hannity who pretends she's saying things that make sense in that “bad grammar” squeaky voice of hers then, just maybe, people would respect her more. We know she's only talking to conservative supporters. Even Obama went on O'Reilly and Scarborough. She's too stupid to mix it up with the other side.

I wish more republicans had her spunk. If Boehner, McConnell, and a couple of those texas dudes were to sacrifice like she has, the political world would be a better place, I'm sure.

“I am NOT a Republican, nor am I a Democrat.”
WARNING: Right-wing rant to follow.
This reminds me of Fox News Democrats like Tammy Bruce. “I'm a Democrat, but . . . [insert right-wing talking points]“.

Heroism? Spunk? Driving the left crazy? The only explanation is outright insanity. Palin 2012. Bring it on.

Interesting. When Democrats want to review results and establish benchmarks, it's cut & run.
When a Republican quits, it shows backbone.
What has happened to the hard working, hard-nosed Republican party I once knew?

BWeston112- Well Said- Everyone deserves a chance at success in a capitalist society. She can and will draw crowds / supporters who, like her for her lack of basic English language skills or ability to form a proper full, sensible statement. But let them pay to listen to her, purchase her books but Please spare this Nation the humiliation of having someone like her as a President. But hey, look at the other side; If she were running this nation, comedians all over the world will have easy material for the following four years. And Laughter is the best medicine, right?
