Fred Thompson Offended by Celebrity’s Election to the Senate
Wednesday, July 01, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Talk radio has been abuzz with mockery of Sen.-elect Al Franken (D-Minn.) all day, but this must be the most ironic attack yet — a fake “interview” between Franken and former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), created by “The Fred Thompson Show.” It’s reminiscent of Franken’s old trick of splicing questions with quotes from Rush Limbaugh but, arguably, not as fun.* And unarguably more ironic. Thompson, after all, was an actor who made his first political bid straight for a Senate seat. Franken is an actor/author who did the same thing. And Thompson can’t stand it. He ends the segment:
You’re not good enough, you’re not smart enough, and nobody who knows you likes you.
*A sample:
FRANKEN: Sweet Jesus, you’re fat.
LIMBAUGH: (Y)es.

Thompson left no trace of influence as a Senator. Thompson was good on tv's Law and Order. But he is no comedian, and he didn't have the basic stamina or focus to run for president.
America is about free speech – Thompson can say what he wants … but sometimes a person just shouldn't, as it reveals more about themself than the person they're lambasting.

David, don't forgot that when Franken did it, he was actually mocking Rush's use of the technique (I think the book contains a sample from a Rush “interview” with Hillary Clinton or something).

I wonder how he'd feel about an actor being elected to the presidency… oh, wait.
