Gary Bauer: Palin Won a Battle in the Culture Wars

Conservative activist Gary Bauer pens an interesting column for Human Events that casts Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-Alaska) feud with David Letterman (remember that? It was before the Iranian election) as a victory for conservatives in the culture wars.

Letterman has enjoyed a temporary ratings boost, but there’s deeper meaning in the incident.  The cultural left lampoons Palin because her values and life are completely foreign to them. They find it bizarre that she hunts, prays and says things like “you betcha.’”  They can’t fathom that she brought a child with Down syndrome to term and that she didn’t pressure her daughter into aborting an unexpected pregnancy… [Letterman's] Palin joke backfired in part because scores of millions of Americans are living lives that more closely resemble Palin’s life than Letterman’s.

The incident did end with at least one advertiser, The Olive Garden, telling consumers that it would not buy more ads on the show this year.

I think the Olive Garden backtracked on their boycott.

Hellman's Mayonnaise and Embassy Suites pulled their advertising too.

The flap caused letterboy's ratings to rise, but now they have crashed again. Good, letterboy is a jerk. He knew perfectly well what daughter was at the ball game, but he didn't care. He's just a bitter old man. If he had said Michell 0bama had a “slutty flight attendant look,” or made any sexual reference to 0bama's kids, he would have have been fired immediately. Now I hope that the court of public opinion drives him off the air due to low ratings.

The Governor has forgiven him so that's an important lesson as well.

Bauer is so full of olive garbage. LIBERAL women do not automatically get abortions, as this hypocristian hack tries to insinuate. Why does he think that?

What everyone has ignored is the millions of people who were outraged by Littleman. It is we the people who won and Littleman knows it – just aint saying.

She's just doing this as a publicity stunt, since obviously her popularity is quickly diminishing – she's stooped so low, practically supporting TIna Fey's parody of her idiotic speeches at SNL. And cmon, she used to be in beauty pageants where she' parade her skimpily-clad body in a teensy weensy bikini, so can she just stop being such a hypocrite about these things.

Gary Bauer, Rev. Dobson and all the other religious hustlers are reacting any way they can due to a major shift by the uneducated and fringe crowd away from the wedge groups. Bauer will use any body or any issue to raise funds or false issues to remain relevent under the current political conditions. Palin is the only cultural warrior left standing who can draw the haters together in a crowd. Rush, Hannity and Beck has stolen control of the wingnuts from their former masters like Bauer and made a fortune selling the poor marks snake oil. So I expect to see the ring masters seek a new poster child to rally the crowd away from the clowns like Rush. It sad the Bauer and the likes let the dogs out but the clowns like Terry, Rush and other haters has taken control and are using them as attack groups on politicans, and the fringe nuts are resorting to murder. I ask you is that the christian way.

the only thing better than watching Sarah “shiny object” Palin fight with a late night comedian, was watching her fight Levi.

Glad I voted Gary Bauer for president when he was running for the GOP nomination. Where is Dan Quayle now when we need him?
