What happened to Kay Bailey Hutchison or other accomplished female GOPers? At least the conservative-liberal debate would be intelligent and civil without the shrill name-calling and labelling that goes on now.

Ed errs in assuming the comedians are fixated on Palin, she's just an easy butt of jokes for the writers, who are always going to go for the easy target. Conan and Maher made much worse jokes than Letterman did. What's next, a Palin offensive on South Park? (You KNOW an SP episode in the cards!)

Palin made her kids targets by brandishing them as stage props, if she wanted to keep their issues private or low key she could have. Making peace with Levi might have helped.

I assume that as (relatively) sane people, Democrats want Palin around for a very long time; her popularity with the Republican base is undeniable, but a clear majority of Americans simply don't like her.

To be fair, though: Letterman was totally out of line making crude sexual jokes about a little girl, and his "apology" was pathetic.
