It's no secret that our economy is based on oil. So how the big 3 figured they would configure their plants make their coin by selling suv's would be a sustainable business practice is absurd. The minute gas prices went up, the infrastructure of our economy became vulnerable. Now GM is stuck with a multitude of plants that produce gas guzzler's that they can't sell. In the meantime, they let the foreign automaker's dominate the small car market. GM needs to retool it's entire product line, needed to do it along time ago. But instead, they are trying to live like the dinosaurs after the meteor hit. Good points Robert Reich.
