Liz Cheney for Congress
Friday, May 22, 2009 at 12:11 pm
Paul Bedard talks with conservatives who are positively twitterpated with Liz Cheney and want her to launch a political career.
“She could start with a major speech on national security,” said one [anonymous supporter]. “Heritage [the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank] could have her in for a big speech on national security. C-SPAN would cover it for sure.” After that she could set up shop in one of the think tanks and build a base of support and knowledge that would put her in position to take a major position in a future Republican administration. She is a former Bush State Department aide, and some people are even suggesting that she consider doing more military policy so that she could take the policy under secretary’s position in a Republican administration when her children are older.
Rarely has the Washington equivalence between “appearing on MSNBC’s G-block” and “being right and popular” been taken so far.

Liz reminds me of a daughter who has been seriously abused by her father throughout her life and now has to defend him in order to keep all that abuse under wraps, quiet.

Oh lord. Where to start with this. Lets just go with the fact that she has a lesbian sister that is open about it. Doesn't that preclude her from the litmus test that must be undertaken for the Repugnant party to have a chance at winning? I want to see her run personally. Then we can ask her questions such as whether they've sent her sister to camp so people can pray the gay away. Or whether she reminds her sister that she has no rights because she chooses to be lesbian. Or…

Just what we need, a published lesbian author in Congress. What was the name of that book you wrote, Ms. Cheeney? Can you do dramatic readings from your book into the Congressional record? ? The Heritage Foundation is hardly a “think tank”, more like getting tanked when this group of reichwing republiKKKons put our their venom. YUCK Isn't the Cheeney daughter also an unwed Mother with a child that is a bastard (just like his grandfather)? These republiKKKons have no moral values, just money values.

Liz IS the lesbian one. The conservatives will be twisting their logic in ten different directions trying to support her.

Erm, “wiseone”, Liz's sister, Mary, is the out lesbian. Liz is (as far as I know) straight, not that it should matter when it comes to public service. You're correct with the assertion that her and her father's uber right-wing views are not what we need in this country today, but I can't condone your homophobia or your need to insult to children born out of wedlock.

Having a member of the family who is out didn't seem to either help or harm Gingrich. I'm not sure if the same could be said of Keyes, though. I think he didn't do himself any favors with his reaction.
Having said that (and getting back to the subject of the post), I definitely think she has a future in the Republican Party, but it will have to be after the soul-searching has ended. Right now, no one in party knows where to turn for leadership.

bring her on… the left awaits her with ravenous teeth… and she won't survive – her own brand of truthiness can't….
