Another Disingenuous Saddam/al-Qaeda Claim From Dick Cheney
Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 11:32 am
Ah, one for old times’ sake:
We had the training camps of Afghanistan, and dictators like Saddam Hussein with known ties to Mideast terrorists.
Sigh. He wants you to hear “known ties to al-Qaeda,” knowing that for eight years, you’ve heard Bush administration officials conflate al-Qaeda with the generic term “terrorists.” In truth, Saddam Hussein had “known ties” to Palestinian terrorist groups that never did and do not still pose a threat to the United States of America. Not to al-Qaeda, as every single official investigation into this dubious and refuted claim has determined. But we’ll be hearing this conspiracy theory from Cheney forever, apparently.

It’s been almost two years since the Institute For Defense Analyses release its first volume of the ‘Iraqi Perspectives Project. A distillation of the 600,000 documents captured by U.S. led coalition in Iraq it proves in the toppled regimes own writing that Saddam Hussein supported Dr. Amin al Zawahiri for decades and was the chief financial supporter of Gulbaddin Hekmatyar’s Afghani safe haven for Al Qaeda.
Are you embarrassingly still unaware of this public document or are you just one more horse that can be led to water but not made to think?

Sir,
no doubt Saddam Hussein had contacts with Al-Qaeda and many more islamic groups.Al-Qaeda was the creation of Zbigniew Brzezinski, who is now playing a pivotal role in the Obama administration.
The present wars in Afghanistan,Sudan,Somalia,Iraq,Sri lanka and proposed wars in Iran that Brzezinski stopped reflect the direction of were Brzezinski goals now lay.Al-Qaeda will play the same role it played before with US support. The destruction of Pakistan into smaller countries.

We must not forget Abu Ibrahim, Mohammed Rashed, Abu Nidal, Abu Abbas, Abdul Rahman Yasin, Egyptian Islamic Jihad, the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, etc. etc. Regardless of how sketchy the al Qaeda links were (an issue I still don't considered settled) there were numerous terrorists who had American blood on their hands. I have tried pretty hard to document the multiple sides of this story and the Saddam, terrorism story is much much more complicated than a simple “was” or “wasn't” at http://www.regimeofterror.com.
Whether or not that was cause for an invasion is an entirely different ball of wax.
