In West Virginia electricity is 5.3 cents a kilowatt hour, about as cheap as it gets in the US. Someone once said when something is cheap as dirt it tends to get treated like dirt. Nature in West Virginia doesn't seem to fair much better. West Virginians use an astounding 17,000 kWh per person per year--nearly triple what a Californian uses. But somehow California has lower poverty rates and Californians have a much standard of living--all with a fraction of coal as an energy supply. More than 150 years of coal and poverty. That surface coal is good for 20 or 30 years more. Then what will you have? What will your children have?

Nobody's whining.

Monica V.

[...] EPA Mining Decisions Favor Coal Industry Despite renewed vows to protect Appalachian waterways from the ravages of mountaintop coal mining, the Environmental Protection Agency has recently authorized a number of pending mountaintop permits that will bury dozens of streams in the nation’s oldest mountain range. The move has left mining supporters cheering the federal endorsement of a popular extraction method, environmentalists wondering if the Obama administration truly intends to prioritize water quality concerns above those of the powerful coal industry, and both sides unsure what to expect of mountaintop permitting in the future.
Isn't it amazing that you all used coal powered electricity to voice your complaint against the evil coal industry. Everyone who uses electricity contributes to the demand for coal. The plus of shutting down the coal companies is that at least we won't have to listen to your whining about the issue.

The new name of the EPA is EDA - the Environmental Destruction Agency. The name change became necessary after the agency became infected with political cancer cells from the Bush regime. Although under treatment now, the agency's condition is most likely terminal.
