Uighurs to Gingrich: Why Hate?
Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Ryan Grim at The Huffington Post has a nice piece about former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s recent foray into opposing the resettlement of Uighur detainees, whom the Bush Pentagon considered a non-threat to national security. Grim quotes the Uighurs’ lawyer, Rushan Abbas, as conveying this message from the cluster of Uighur detainees at Guantanamo, whom she recently visited:
“Why does he hate us so much and say those kinds of things? He doesn’t know us. He should talk to our attorneys if he’s curious about our background,” Abbas relates. “How could he speak in such major media with nothing based in fact? They were very disappointed how Newt Gingrich was linking them to ETIM [East Turkistan Islamic Movement] which they never even heard of the name ETIM until they came to Guantanamo Bay.”
A slanderous charge. Newt Gingrich is the most reality-based man in American politics, arts or letters. Will the Uighur onslaught never cease?

Newt is one of the most self serving, calloused, opportunistic politicians in the, “I was thrown out of Congress Club.”
He has no personal knowledge of these folks. He only knows that if he makes a(n) (irresponsible) comment it will give him air time.
If he prejudges people he doesn't even know he certainly would not be fit to be elected to public office…
