Here Comes the ‘Democrat Socialist Party’
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 9:48 am
Roger Simon confirms that the Republican National Committee will vote on, and probably pass, “a resolution rebranding Democrats as the ‘Democrat Socialist Party,’” even though weakened RNC Chairman Michael Steele has warned it “will accomplish little than to give the media and our opponents the opportunity to mischaracterize Republicans.”
In a totally unrelated development, Richard Posner has written that “conservative intellectuals now have no party.” Certainly, the chances that Democrats will officially rename the GOP “the Conservative Intellectual Party” are pretty slim.
Update: The Democratic National Committee isn’t really reacting to this, and spokesman Hari Sevugan reiterated the initial response to rumors of this resolution: “When you’re devoid of leadership and devoid of ideas, it’s not surprising that your more fringe members take center stage.”

What's interesting to me, is that they continue to call themselves the “Cheney-Gingrich-Limbaugh Party.” For our part, we should brand them–loudly and continuously–as the “Republican” Party. It's unfair to the Republic, but it carries all the weight and baggage that they need to deal with.

This strikes me as roughly equivalent to Coca Cola making it official corporate policy to call Pepsi “Urine Cola.” Hey, it's their call, but they basically just look stupid. It's actually worse, because they're now elevating socialism to the level of an acceptable alternative to conservatism. Well over half the country really likes the socialist leader! This does not seem like the direction they would want to go.

It's Richard Posner, the judge, not Gerald Posner, the journalist.

The GOP is going down in flames and the best that the Republicans can do is to call names?
Sad.
Just, truly sad.

They can call the name it “Democrat Socialist Party” if the Dems get to call the GOP “National Socialist Party”. Quid pro quo.

Right on Marsha! We can't allow these “democrat socialist” to keep destroying our country! With this country's national debt in the 11 trillion dollar range, we can't waste any time! Of course, thanks largely to another democratic president, George W. Bush. Oh wait………..

Fortunately, the Democrats have enough class to refrain from rebranding the Republicans as the “Republican Fascist Destroyer-of-Economies and Incompetent-Policy-Maker Party.”
