Why don't some students compare prices in Canadian universities & colleges? In Kingston, Ontario we have St. Lawrence College. It has trade school programs that offer excellent opportunities in the marketplace. In this town it costs $75.00 for a technician just to walk into your home to fix your air-conditioner. No one on the phone in India is going to be able to do that. Check it out. Who knows? If you stay here you may be the one to fix my air-conditioner some day. *LOL*

Some of us who went to college offer bursaries to needy students. You don't have to have a high academic average either. You don't have to pay anyone back. Perhaps the colleges should encourage this type of giving by their alumnae.

You're not an idiot. You wanted an education in a country that favors people with money. You'll see my posting above this comment. In Canada back in 1970 my education was heavily subsidized with the govt. When I ran out of money I got a small loan. That small loan saved me. I ended up on welfare for 2 yrs. after graduation. I finally found a job and I'm now retired. I set up a bursary for mature female students. The bursary goes into effect when I die. I love Canada & I thank the govt. every day for what they've done to help a poor student.

I was a Queen's University student in Canada in 1970. I paid under $600.00 for tuition and $800.00 for the school year in residence. Back then it took only 3 yrs. to earn a bachelors degree because we had Grade 13 in public school. Grade 13 was like receiving a year equivalent to college but paid for by taxpayers. Since then the growth of tuition has exceeded inflation but it's still cheaper than in the USA. Grade 13 is gone. There was an MBA program started in the 1990's. It cost $20,000/yr. Today I'm 60 & retired. I thank my country & the taxpayers every day for the subsidized education that they gave me.

As a recent grad literally struggling with my student debt which costs more than the average mortgage, I appreciate this article. I have now choosen to take community college courses and defer my loans for as long as I can because it is cheaper than making payments on my loans. I borrowed the money when I was 18-22 years old and I was an idiot for it. I read a journal article that says our brains aren't fully developed until we are 25 and looking back I have to agree. . . man I was stupid and I will be in this slavery for life unless I win the lottery.
