Longer ACLU, from Jamil Dakwar, director of the ACLU Human Rights Program:
“While we welcome the Obama administration’s commitment to upholding human rights at home and abroad, we are concerned that the first detailed list of human rights commitments to come from the new administration leaves out several key issues. In order to fully restore its position as a leader on human rights around the world, the U.S. must pledge to promote fair trial standards, end torture and arbitrary and indefinite detention and hold government officials accountable for violating U.S. and international human rights laws. The new administration has already taken steps to break with the Bush administration’s disastrous human rights policies but there is still much more to do, including the domestic implementation of human rights commitments and the creation of effective monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.”

LAWYERS FOR POOR AMERICANS APPLAUDS BOTH PRESIDENT OBAMA AND THE ACLU FOR UNDERSTANDING HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR AMERICA TO BE THE TRUE WORLD LEADERS WHEN IT COMES TO OFFERING REAL JUSTICE TO ANYONE ACCUSED OF CRIMINAL ACTS !!!
OUR VOLUNTEER WWW LOBBY HAS REAL CONCERNS IN MAKING SURE THAT ALL MIDDLECLASS AND WORKING POOR AMERICANS CAN ALSO BE AN EQUAL PART OF THAT EQUATION CALLED REAL JUSTICE IN AMERICA ?. CURRENTLY OUR AMERICAN JUDICIAL SYSTEM IS IN A VERY REAL DIRE SITUATION WHEN IT COMES TO BEING ABLE TO OFFER JUSTICE TO OUR POORER AMERICANS.
WE KNOW OUR NEWLY ELECTED PRESIDENT AND HIS WIFE BOTH HAVE HEARTS OF GOLD WHEN IT COMES TO ASSURING EQUAL PROTECTIONS UNDER THE LAW FOR ALL AMERICANS, AND LAWYERS FOR POOR AMERICANS LOOKS FORWARD TO SUPPORTING THIS SPECIAL AND UNIQUE PRESIDENT OF OURS AND WE HAVE COMPLETE FAITH THAT HIS AGENDA FOR OUR FUTURE AMERICA WILL BE ONE OF TRUE ENLIGHTENMENT !!!
