‘The Democrat Socialist Party’
Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 4:08 pm
Great catch from Jonathan Martin: Republican National Committee member James Bopp Jr. wants the national committee to “rename the opposition the ‘Democrat Socialist Party’” and shame the three Republican senators who supported the stimulus bill. He has 16 co-sponsors.
“There is nothing more important for our Party than bringing the truth to bear on the Democrats March to Socialism,” said Jeff Kent, the Washington state committeeman who proposed the resolution. “Just like Ronald Reagan identifying the USSR as the evil empire was the beginning of the end to Soviet domination, we believe the American people will reject socialism when they hear the truth about how the Democrats are bankrupting our country and destroying our freedom and liberties.”
This sort of thing was an issue, if sort of a minor one, in the RNC race that Steele won. At the end of 2008 the RNC conservatives drafted a resolution condemning the Bush White House for the Wall Street bailouts. The resolution, which in its ideological harshness was a big step away from what the RNC usually does, was supported by … Michael Steele. The argument against that resolution was that it would set a dangerous precedent, and that argument doesn’t look wrong today.

…because Reagan calling the USSR “evil” is what started it's downfall. Obviously this premise is flawed.
1) We've had socialized programs in America since 1930 or something.
2) Socialism does not mean a loss of freedom or liberties. It's an economic system that can exist in harmony with Democracy (a governmental system).
It's called a mixed economy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_economy
the majority of citizens wanting an alternative, single payer health insurance model is not a march towards complete socialism. (see also slippery slope fallacy)
The only people getting angry about this are high school dropouts and wingnuts being spurred on by:
Hannity (college dropout), RushBo (college dropout) and Beck (college dropout).
Are these really the intellectual spokesmen of the GOP??

Couldn't agree more.
All the old geezer Fox News watchers (average age 72) who are screaming socialism need to get the fuck out of socialistic programs like Medicare. Take your 70 year old diabetic ass out there and join the free market. Experieince the joys of the “magic of the marketplace” first hand.

What's the bigger insult supposed to be, ignorantly continuing to refer to the Democratic Party as the Democrat Party or the latest childish maneuver – declaring them the “Democrat Socialist Party?”
Why not call them by their proper name – POMA (the Party of the Overwhelming Majority of Americans).
I'd like to propose another resolution. The renaming of the Republican Party.
Whereas the Republican Party has been taken over by Right Wing Racist Secessionists, it is officially proposed that the Republican Party be heretofore referred to as “The Republican Nazi Party.”
All Republicans in favor, say “Aye.” AYE!
The resolution is passed.
Brainiacs – and you wonder why the Republican Party is headed for extinction?

Nice, intelligent response, but unfortunately you're attempting to educate the unteachable.
Within a desperate month's time towards the end of the Presidential campaign, the Wingnuts called then Candidate Obama a Celebrity, Socialist, Communist, Fascist and Nazi. As nothing seemed to stick, they just kept upping the idiot ante.
Obviously, nobody can claim to be more than one of those last four since they have nothing in common other than serving as epithets from the abject ignorant. To have to explain to these orthogenetic backwards why President Obama is none of the above is a waste of a breath in a life that's too short, already.
As for the educational level of these people, that doesn't have to cause a dumb-down. Lincoln did pretty well with almost no formal education.
It's their disdain for education that bothers me.

You've got to be kidding. It's arrogant for a Republican to think he can choose to name the Democratic party. It's ignorant to label the Democrats socialist when a Republican president was the biggest federal spender … ever. It's paranoid to have such fear of the word “socialist” when there are a few tricks we could learn from European socialism. It's a huge waste of time to be proposing this idiocy when there are more important things to work on. And, finally, it's self destructive to the Republican party because it just reinforces the image of being out of touch. This proposal is idiotic in the extreme
