Where Are The Ghost Detainees? « The Washington Independent

Don’t miss Dafna Linzer’s ProPublica report— following up on her post last week about an inadvertently acknowledged secret CIA detainee— on so-called “ghost detainees” believed to held by the CIA but unreported to, say, the Red Cross. If another country did this, we’d probably call these detainees “disappeared,” with all the ugly implications of that word. She’s got a tally:
At least three dozen others who were held in the CIA’s secret prisons overseas appear to be missing as well. Efforts by human rights organizations to track their whereabouts have been unsuccessful, and no foreign governments have acknowledged holding them.
The CIA isn’t commenting on Linzer’s list of the known-suspected ghost detainees, but a spokesman calls such compilations “typically flawed.”
