Scenes From the DC Tea Party: More Photos!

By
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 3:26 pm

Here’s a supplement to Aaron’s great photo spread from this afternoon’s rally.

Remember: Fox News reported on these rallies. It didn’t promote them!

This was a popular theme, along with references to images of President Obama’s bow to the King of Saudi Arabia.

Another talk radio trope that made many appearances.

For some reason this woman brushed off reporters and photographers, which means we may never learn where the president was really born.

Lots of kids handled signs, although the best use of the young was:

Clarissa Knox, and her as-yet-unborn baby.

This grassroots protest mysteriously attracted a number of conservative pundits. Here’s Steve Moore, a Wall Street Journal op-ed page editor who appears on CNBC and Fox.

Radio host and Fox News pundit Laura Ingraham, who at one point drew a bigger crowd than the speakers on the stage at the other side of the park.

One of Fox’s frequent business commentators.

Griff Jenkins does interviews for Fox News, which did not promote these protests.

Did you know “Obama” rhymes with the first name of the 9/11 mastermind? It’s true!

A surprisingly rare teabag sighting.

Godwin in full effect.

Some promotion for Sen. Arlen Specter’s (R-Pa.) primary opponent.

Some New Deal revisionism.

Her tax dollars pay for illegal immigration.

A nice combo of Birtherism and “In Living Color” references.

And we close with Ayn Rand.

Interesting that these conservatives are protesting Bush's taxes and not Obama's. Unfortunately, reading up on what they are protesting isn't something they know how to do.

I think they don't know how to protest period, since you need to actually have something you truly believe to make at the very least sincere.

looking at this, i realized this has ABOSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH TAXES

it just provides a long-needed outlet for these dying white “Christian” lunatics to vent. the 2008 election was the death-throes of their WASPy Euro white reign which began in 1492. The whole Fox NEws/Hannity axis is built on martyrdom, or victimhood. Poor Christians trying to survive in a godless, leftist USA, hell-bent on destroying everything that made this country great.

but the world is changing. demographics are foreboding for them. this will be a non-white, Democratic country for perpetuity, unless the GOP reaches out to hispanics, etc.

instead, the right-wing is contracting, lashing out. it's a natural pyschological phenomenon. they can't win. they have nothing to offer. just fear, bitterness.

the “tax”/”bailout” excuse is just that – a cover for their litany of greiveances as oppressed white Christians: abortion, Islam, multiculturalism, etc. these are the same lunatics (like my step-uncle ) who compalin when they don't allow a nativity scene in their town square.

their little wonderful Christian world is disintegrating, and instead of being a non-pussy about it, they're little whiny bitches. they don't care about taxes, bailouts, budgets. if they did, as you mentioned, they would have been out in force 7 years ago.

now they see the writing on the wall.

party's over assholes!

Yes, how mysterious that Steve Moore, an advocate for low taxes and smaller government most of his adult life, would turn up at such an event.

And for those that can't figure out what people are so upset about, I suggest checking this out:

http://zdavatz.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/bush…

And this is only after, what, about 3 months in office. I don't know how much more of Obama we can afford.

Obama promised change and a net spending cut. Instead he is promoting more of Bush's deficit policies — except placing them on steroids — and spending like mad.

Sigh.

If you're a “majority”, how did you get blown away in the November election? How is it that opinion polls continue to show Obama's approval ratings at over 60%? You really have no idea what you're talking about.

Also, the bulk of the “coverage” for these protests are coming from the right wing media outlets that have been promoting them, namely Fox News and right wing radio.

I'm a history buff that just wants this country to follow the constitution and the bill of rights. Nothing less…nothing more. These folks on this blog taking cheap shots at American's trying to make a difference are pathetic. The make up of Congress and the House of Representatives is going to change drastically in the next election. The leftist movement better continue to hurry with putting it's agenda through because in less than 21 months the party for them will be over. America's best days are still ahead!

“Remember: Fox News reported on these rallies. It didn’t promote them!” I think the record shows otherwise. Most all of the networks reported on the potential for tea-parties. Only Fox heavily promoted the parties — on almost every show, including the hard news shows.

I would appreciate if the site-host would explain if she or he was mounting the same protest when the last President ran up large deficits — mostly off the books. I imagine many of the people in these photos were supportive of Mr. Bush's spending excesses — or perhaps not aware of them. Perhaps Fox News did not keep them “in the loop” when over $700bb of war spending was appropriated and spent overseas and off the books.

“If you're a “majority”, how did you get blown away in the November election? “
Obama 08 53% Bush 04 52%.

Obama
Be honest. Would you rather have the next two years, or 2004-2006 back?

2004: 4% unemployment. 4% annual GDP growth, Windfall federal and state revenues. 12000 dow. Credit available for all.
2009: 9% unemployment and rising. Economic retraction. 8000 dow. Withdrawn capital.

“…..and instead of being a non-pussy about it, they're little whiny bitches.”
Because the extreme, transnational “progressive” left was positively debonair the past eight years.

“The party's over”
Yep. Spread the misery, bottom up.
Take a look at blue state census rolls?
The left's way is so much better, that's why they're all fleeing to Colorado, New Hampshire, Texas, Tennessee, Carolina. Massachusetts has lost population six straight years; losing a congressman next year. Michigan, Rhode Island, New York, Cali, Oregon, VT. Even they don't to live there.
Next order of business: Rahm starts screwing with the census.

The 60s are over. The bums lost.

Can we assume that you are willing to cut the money spent going to foreign countries and killing innocent people who, before we took a military interest in them that, were not a threat to us? Or the money that props up our proxy dictators, so we can get their energy? No, not gonna cut there?

Okay, so tell us whom amongst the poor you're willing to throw under the bus to abate the estate tax. Those who have no one watching after them would be easy targets, say the elderly and demented poor and disabled, so let's count them in for cuts. Who and What else should we cut so that the richest people in the country don't have to pay their fair share back into the system that produced their wealth in the first place.

I believe in freedom of speech but I have real concerns that the type of hate-filled rhetoric displayed on the signs at these so called “tea parties” could lead to violence and harm to our leaders. The ignorance of some many of commentators here is staggering. One wants to kill all the protesters. One refers to them as being Christians, and Republicans or fans of Fox News. I have some news for all of you who make these ridiculous comments. I am not a Republican. I am not a Christian. I am not a fan of Fox News. I am a firm believer in the Constitution. I am against attempts to police the world and foreign wars. I am against the ever-increasing government interference in all aspects of our lives. I believe in the supremacy of the individual. I believe the government is the servant and the individual citizen the master. I suspect that I have been struggling for Constitutional rights long before many of the commentators here were born. To the person who asked where I was when President Bush was spending huge sums engaging in overseas wars, I have to tell you I actively protested and worked against his policies. I am doing the same in respect to the policies of the new administration and Congress. My philosophy and actions are logically consistent and not based upon political partisanship. I personally wish a pox on both the Democratic and Republican parties, for as long as they continue to ignore the Constitution and advocate policies that diminish the supremacy of the individual citizen. The actions you saw this day were more about being Americans, and Democrats or Republicans. So do your worst, and shovel more insults if it makes you feel better and strokes your partisan egos. I am an American first and last. I will defend and do everything in my power to defend the liberty granted me by the very nature of human existence, and do so non-violently. I support life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I do not apologize for believing in the principles upon which this nation was founded.

If the common man, unlike some of the sheep here, are starting to understand what just happened on the economic level at the G20, I'm happy for that progress. After all, your freedom depends on who controls the money and you do understand that Obama just did what his backers were hoping he'd do — he turned us back over to the foreign bankers. It wasn't enough the illegal private Fed has no oversight, now it's international banking criminals that control our money. Next is medicine, food and guns.. (There are bills in Congress to control 2/3 of those, coincidentally)

We have just lost our sovereignty and freedom. The fact that some people, even those who admit they were duped by this puppet president, are starting to wake up and smell the coffee is encouraging.

Sometimes you must be patient when educating the beer and chips crowd, a lot of them have absolutely no sense of what they voted for as witnessed by the vacuous comments you see here.

Huh? What “system” “produced” the wealth of the “richest people”? You mean all you have to do is find the “system” and get rich? You don't have to work for it, start a business, be industrious, have an idea, invent something…save…invest…? You just go to the “system”? Wow! I'll go there now to become one of the “richest”. Then later on you can tell me what's “fair” and, while you're at it, who decides what's “fair”. Idiot. Do people really believe that if I become successful it automatically means someone else becomes poorer? Estate tax? Taxing money that's already been taxed, probably several times over? No wonder we're going down the toilet. Facts are inconvenient things and will sooner or later trump emotion and ignorance, which currently seem to be running the world…

It's that the other stations are very unprofessional and don't even try to hide the fact they are cheerleaders for the foreign bankers and corporate elites. After all that is who owns them, and they also own Obama. I mean what president goes abroad and trashes his own country? He needs to be tarred and feathered for treason.

Did you know that Nazi sympathiser Soros made $1.2B on this faked crisis? And Henry Kissinger just loved it, because he said it would allow Obama to 'take advantage of it'. And judging from the foolish people here, you can see that he did just that… Whew..they swallowed it hook line and sinker.

“These people are NOT singling out President Obama. They're fed up with YEARS of irresponsible spending.”

True but not in the way you mean. It is the SPENDING that is the problem. Bailouts, faux stimulus , earmarks, and a Democrat Congress that is run amok on spending.

But Obama now OWNS it all. Obama gave a $16 TRILLION budget plan for next 4 years. Largest spending ever – 27% of GDP. Largest deficits ever – 12% of GDP. Largest increase in the debt EVER. So huge and massive, the GOP Congress-critters are now eagerly opposing such spending insanity.

Well done, Dems, outdoing the GOP's minor level of fiscal irresponsibility with massive levels of same. Only two outcomes are possible:
1. AMERICA GOES BANKRUPT UNDER OBAMA'S PLANS
2. GOP RETAKES CONGRESS IN 2010 AND PUTS A STOP TO IT

For Democrats, their current “Spend like Sailors on crack in a high-priced whorehouse” plans will end in disaster, one way or another.

Anyone with kids, or is younger than 40 years old themselves *and* has a functioning brain … KNOWS that the trillions we are spending now will have to be paid for eventually.

We are talking almost $4 TRILLION in debt in the next few years. That's $40,000 per household!!!

YOU will pay the bill for the massive trillions in spending that is going on now. YOU. You are trapped like a rat and the only way out is death or poverty. Do you have your $40,000 to pay this off?

YOU AND NOBODY ELSE. If some politician has managed to convince you that someone else will pay for your free lunch, that politician is a liar and you are a fool for believing him.

Comment posted April 15, 2009 @ 9:57 pm

The only reason we are in this mess is because of the FEDERAL RESERVE. A private entity printing FIAT monopoly-like money 24/7. People just realize this… It doesn't matter who is seen as the “president” or “congress”.. the bottom line is that the gold standard has been abandoned long ago (research) and the right of the congress to print and coin American money for the people has been privatized treacherously. The Fed (who is by the way a PRIVATE entity) is the one who is driving the value of the dollar down the tubes. Congress or let's be honest.. no one has any legal right to either audit, question or have oversight over this treasonous PRIVATE entity. Once the American people realize this..It's just a matter of finding out who really puts that $1.00 bill in your wallet with INTEREST to every single taxpayer. Every cent put into the market is a cent laden with interest..multiply that into the trillions. Do you realize now where our deficit is coming from? That interest goes right into the pockets of the elite financiers running the FED. How can a private entity be allowed to print our currency with no disregard to the taxpayers wishes and no abandon? It's like having Microsoft or Wal-Mart print it at their whim. There is definitely an enemy..but most of my friends are looking in the wrong direction!

This is just another right wing fiasco. I am a conservative, a Barry Goldwater fiscal conservative. I love small government, low taxes, a balanced budget. Dont' give a damn about who someone sleeps with, who they marry, what they put in there body as long as it doesn't effect me.
I voted for Obama. He isn't my perfect candidate but the Republican party is worse than the Dems. Who gave us Sarah Palin, Day Quayle, GWB, Brownie, Clarance Thomas, and Joe the Plumber? What announcer has prroven to be a bigger hypocrite than Rush Limbaugh? Who has been more wrong more often that Bill Kristol? Yet these guys are huge in this party.
GWB drove the defecits up, the economy went to hell under his watch (and 6 of 8 years of all Rep govt). We have spent or will have committments for a medium estimate of 3 Trillion dollars because of the Iraq war.
I agree with the basic idea that you save during good times and pay down debt and you borrow during bad times. Just think if we had continued to pay down debt and hadn't committed so much money to Iraq?
I don't like the bailouts but they didn't start under Obama. He has the misfortune of taking the reigns at a very difficult time.
The Ron Paul supporters (who weren't welcome by the Republican party establishment) can rightfully complain all they want. They seem to have consistent principles. If you supported GWB, if you thought defecits didn't matter, if you weren't concerned about the massive amounts of money that were disappearing in Iraq or the continued contracts with Halliburton and KBR and Blackwater then you shouldn't be concerned now.

I hate to say it. The only way I can see to strengthen the dollar again would be to get rid of some of the money in circulation. The only way the US government can do anything to get rid of the extra cash is to tax it and then destroy it or send it to out of country debtors.

I have always been curious if anyone has another answer to this problem?

kw, we did complain about the spending. But it is not an excuse to spend more. what a stupid argument. the original bailout was enough, it stabalized things enough. There was no need for more. and you cannot blame Bush for everything. he inherited a weak national security. I disagreed wit the war, but he inherited the problems of previous administraions. it was Clinton who really got the deregulation going, and it was Clinton who forced Mae and mac to increase the % of bad loans. check the record. Bush did not bring it under control, but it was already rolling along. But to spend the trillions now because he spent billions is a stupid rational. can't the democrats and Obama just be honest and say that they are in control and now all those pet projects that were closed to them are now going to be funded, no matter what it costs. if i am in hole, the way to get out is not to keep digger down. he has not proven his spending is helping, especially since many $ will not be spent for many years. This is all borrowed money.

History of the US Revolution:
The UK had just finished an expensive war against the French, most of which was fought on what is now US and Canadian soil.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_and_Indian_War

The UK wanted colonists to start paying there taxes (most colonists did not) because the logic was that most of the money went to protect the colonies. Unfortunately, these taxes where given without any colonial representation in the British Parliment and some would hurt merchant trade.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_revolution

1773 we had the Boston Tea party in response to the Tea Act because “Colonists objected to the Tea Act for a variety of reasons, especially because they believed that it violated their constitutional right to be taxed, only, by their own elected representatives.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_tea_party

Then it became common to say “No taxation without Representation”

Since only 2 parties are represented in the Congress I understand why this would be a Libertarian movement. Unfortuantely, historically it makes not since to be a Republican movement since they have representation. Unless, Republicans at these things are arguing that they should only pay taxes if a Repulican run Senate passes it.

He accepted the job and has no excuse because in reality his mix is more white than black or are you forgetting his white mother. I think his mind is also more white than black but he played black to achieve his goals. He is president and some things he has done shows character, but mostly he just takes, takes, takes. Thats right. Did he serve in the military. No! He barely served an apprenticeship in the Senate and now he is president. The only place he stayed for any length of time was Reverend Wright's church and now his words echo Wrights when he calls our nation arrogant., The politicians may be arrogant but for the most part the citizens of this country are honest hardworking and giving people. I am also 64 years old like another commenter. No sir, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, JFK Reagan and others would not have not labeled our country arrogant. I guess Obama can because he is black., or is he. I know most people in this country are not racist and good people attended the tea parties in order to keep America free. American people are getting a $400.00 tax cut, losing jobs faster then rabits multiply. Loosing homes, cars, arguing with creditors because bills can't be paid, filing bankruptcy, living in tents, on the street.

How do you think 306MM given to the people could have helped our economy? Thats about 1MM for every american. Most people could have paid there homes off, cars, credit cards etc. No one would have to stand in unemployment lines. OH YEAH the banks would get all ther money back. Would this have fixed our economy? Not by a long shot! But it could have given time for the government and business @#$k's to work out appropriate arrangements. People would have money to live off of until then. Some may be able to retire with that amount but not many.

Overall, Congress recently a 39% approval rating. Some polls have it more like 36% these days, but even FOX reports it as 38%. The Democrats specifically have a 57% approval rating, but the overall rating is being dragged down by the 22% rating of the GOP. These numbers are from a fairly recent Gallup poll. Other polls will have different numbers, but the story is the same, people are happier with Congress now than they've been in years. Not delighted…no one ever really is, but there is hardly a hatefest for the Dems in Congress outside of the Bircher Tea Party crowd.

Here are more polls, but these aren't broken down by party, but I can assure you that the Democratic members of Congress have better numbers than the Republicans. They're getting the same 22% they always got. The same 22% that still loved Bush no matter how many things he screwed up.

http://www.pollingreport.com/CongJob.htm

And PS. Bush planned for his tax cuts to expire (so he could fudge the number on his long-term debt projections). Obama is only letting them expire at the highest income bracket to a rate that is 11% LOWER than it was under the first six years of Reagan.

Remember that before Obama, only 3 post war presidents saw the share of debt/gdp increase under their watch (and it EXPLODED under each of their watches). They were Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II. Every other post-war president saw it go down. I recall a saying those administrations liked to quote…”Deficits don't matter.” Remember that? Is that just another case of IOKIYAR?

From all the “homey”, “Osama/Obama”, “birth certificate” signs its very clear that these tea baggers dislike Obama, but for reasons besides his economic policies.

And for the people bent out of shape about the bowing to a King thing:

I attended a tea party in Miami and honestly it wasn't conservative, Republican or organized by Fox News (although liberals and Obama shills would love to think so). It's amazing that people like Andrew Sullivan who a few years ago would've been all over this protest, is portraying it as a Fox News event just because Obama is in the White House. Its It was a protest against government in general; the GOP and the Democrats are to share the blame. Obama didn't cause this mess, but he is currently adding to it, just like the GOP did for the last 8 years. To label us as partisans is off point; it was an anti-government rally. Which is what this country needs. We all need to hold our elected officials accountable.

When are you Libs going to get it? It's not the Republicans fault. They're the good guys in a Manichean struggle of Good vs. Bad, Light vs. Darkness, White hats vs. Black hats, Jedi vs. Sith and as we all know: in Manichean struggles, the Good side can do as much evil as it wants, even if everything it did was evil, it must still be called Good, but the Bad side can do no good that can be credited as such. Good can rob, thieve, murder, and kidnap, but you must call it Good at all times. Bad can make sure that the poor are fed and clothed, but you can't call that charity good. It's the same with Democrats and Republicans. Republicans could double the debt every year they're in office, but you can't call them “fiscally irresponsible.” Democrats could hew the debt in twain until there's none, but you dare not call them “fiscally responsible.” It's simple metaphysics, people. Sure the Good can sit on their hands while their friends rob the treasury, and sit on swank government committees with fancy names soaking public payroll, but they will always be “fiscally conservative”, capiche? Get with the program, stupid libs! The Good can't spend all day telling you the score, Lib scum, the Good has a lot more lives to threaten with lynching and random mass shootings to carry out, before this day is done. Heh, indeed!

Real conservatives were annoyed when Bush bailed out the airlines, which didn't save any jobs. then again when he bailed out the bank. Dems saw the problem then too, and yet they act so surprised when bailing out AIG turns into a disaster. Then the failing car companies get ready for bankruptcy even after taking the bailouts. There is no way the dems could have seen this coming? That's complete B.S.!

Bush's no-bid contracts in Iraq were bad enough, and we were annoyed, but Obama is going to borrow and spend as much in his first year as Bush spent on Iraq in 8! That's enough to shove annoyed people into becoming activists! Our increase in Gov spending as percent of GDP from this is larger than the increase was for the New Deal, form 22-23% to 28-30%. New Deal spending rose to less than ten percent. Common sense tells you our GDP is higher now than it was, so we have a larger percent increase of a larger number when we started out with a larger percent of GDP spent to begin with (22% compared to about 6%). That is completely insane, and it's being done with Chinese money!

So the very plan McCain pretended not to have and that Obama and Hillary criticized is exactly what Obama is starting to do. So, no we are not getting to not spend in Iraq and spend here instead. we are spending in both and borrowing trillions to cover the bill!
Oh, but I'm sure regressive tobacco tax, which impacts the poorest Americans the most, will pay for this and transform us from “borrow and spend” to save. B.S.!

The grievances against the government that [Joanne Wilder] and [Jim] Smith talk about sound identical to the complaints raised by their favorite conservative talk radio show hosts: wasteful bailout spending approved by Obama and the Congress; assistance to poorer homeowners with bad credit who are defaulting on subprime mortgages; Obama’s plan to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans; affirmative action; and entitlement programs that undercut capitalism….

After a lifetime of working, paying taxes and raising three children on her own, Wilder is struggling.
She said she retired on disability from M&T Bank three years ago after undergoing knee replacement and back surgeries. She lives on her Social Security and disability benefits. Last year, she petitioned the bankruptcy court for protection from creditors.

She said she did not have to pay federal income taxes last year because her income was too low.

“I don’t want to see this country turn into a welfare, nanny state, where we stand in line for groceries, and we’re in welfare lines, and in socialized medicine lines,” Wilder said.

At a time when newspapers, magazines and TV news continue to lose readers and viewers, at least one part of the traditional media has continued to grow robustly: National Public Radio.

The audience for NPR's daily news programs, including “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered,” reached a record last year, driven by widespread interest in the presidential election, and the general decline of radio news elsewhere. Washington-based NPR will release new figures to its stations today showing that the cumulative audience for its daily news programs hit 20.9 million a week, a 9 percent increase over the previous year.

Right On! As I told a conservative friend you can't have a Tax Cut and fight Wars off budget at the same time. Basic accounting is Assets = Liabilities + Equity. If you tax and spend then you have a chance to increase your Equity – spend less than you tax (revenue). If you increase spending and decrease taxes then you are taking from your Equity and digging a deeper whole.

Someone earlier said that the real First World War – the one that established the British Empire was fought mostly in North America where it was known as the French and Indian War misses most of the War where in 1759 alone the British beat the French in India, Martinique, Senegal, Germany, and Canada along with a major Naval victory against the French fleet on the coast of France. A very expensive operation.

They were correct about the Tea Party and the Revolution. But you can also see why the French and the Dutch could be convinced into funding our effort and with Louis XVI supplying both the fleet that kept Cornwallis at Yorktown and about half the soldiers.

The debt that France acquired directly led to a later need for France to bring in the Fourth Estate to increase taxation. This was followed by the French Revolution … and another World War – of which the War of 1812 was a side action. I think that only stopped because of the Tambora volcano caused the year without a summer in 1816 – when Frankenstein was written – a year when crops failed world wide.

Let's stop this endless cycle before nature does it for us.

Those who read their 1040 instructions will recognize this: U.S. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. notably said “Taxes are what we pay for civilized society.”

I hate to judge this exercise in freedom of speech by the signs in this coverage but it's hard not to be disturbed by the underlying current of racism. Then again, Bush was called plenty of ugly epithets during his presidency but Obama won the election fair and square. When Bush was criticized for his actions and policies, it was called unpatriotic by Fox News, Rush, et al. I would like to think that the extremist fringe attendees of these events are not indicative of the GOP-led opposition but I have not heard one prominent GOP politician disown some of these truly unpatriotic signs. As someone who actually attended the Tea Party in Albuquerque, NM I can tell you that most of the surprisingly large crowd consisted of extremely non-extreme folks concerned about their children's futures and smart enough to understand how much money a trillion dollars really is .

Despite the silly comments here, there were no racist overtones.

In Albuquerque, the event was set up so that demonstrators lined one of our main streets during rush hour and it was interesting to see how most of the cars moving slowly through the area got into the spirit of the thing, honking, waving and cheering even though their commute home was being slowed. The only anger I saw came from the very occasional car-bound passerby, obviously on the other side of the political divide, giving the finger or shouting insults or obscenities. This invariably elicited waves and laughter from the demonstrators.

Just wondering where all these “patriots” were when Bush took a national debt that took 230 years to build up and doubled it in 8 short years? Just wondering where these folks were, what they had to say when the best economists in the world reprimanded the Bush administration as frighteningly irresponsible for cutting taxes while waging two wars? Just wondering how these people can look back at the last 8 years of the economy and not see it for the hallucination that it was in Bush's mind when he kept saying that it was sound – the last bastion of the great American manufacturing capability left at that point was building houses. Those jobs are gone and we see what's left of our wealth-building capacity is being forced overseas. What do these “patriots” think when Senator Phil Gramm's UBS, a Swiss bank, has a backlog of over 100 American tax evaders lining up for criminal prosecution. P.T. Barnum was right – there's a sucker born every minute. Wake up, folks. First they sent your job overseas, then they put the tax burden on you, or outsourced in the form of borrowing from the Chinese (really notable democrats, the Chinese) and the Middle Eastern potentates. The Chinese and Middle Eastern rulers are lining up their buy lists for American corporations to take over once the smoke finally clears. And we're leaving the Wall Street crooks in place to do it to us all over again.

Class warfare has been going on for 30 years and if you're not obscenely wealthy, shuttling your funds offshore in tax-free havens, you've fallen for every trick in the book. Now they're laughing at you even more as you show up at these wealth sponsored tea parties and work even further against your own interests. As Mencken would say, the American boobocracy at work. You got, what, an extra $100 over the last 8 years in tax reduction while the top 1% got over $75,000 a year in tax reductions? 30 years of the Laffable Curve at work.

Obama's plan is the Bush-Patraeus plan. McCain/Romney/Bush/Obama – all the same(!!) – the exigencies of warcraft and statecraft end up requiring the same pragmatic answer. We can be thankful that after screwing things up for a while, Bush came up with the right answer (aka The Surge) in 2007-2008, just at the time when the rest of Washington were ready to throw in the towel. Obama said we needed to hand over authority to the Iraqis. Under Bush-Patraeus, 15 of 18 provinces were already handed over. Obama's 20 months was what the original Patraeus-Bush plan foresaw… Obama just stretched out his own milestones as a figleaf to cover this fact. We are seeing the third Bush term in Iraq policy with Bush DoD head Gates implementing it.

This is far cry from Obama's 2007 rhetoric which was basically cut-n-run from Iraq. Obama may be doing the right thing on Iraq, but if you thought Obama would be any different from a third Bush term on Iraq you were scammed. He aint. Apparently Obama's promises have an expiration date. If Obama's promises were provided in the form of a product warranty, you'd be able to return it to the store and get your money back.

I hate to judge this exercise in freedom of speech but it's hard not to be disturbed by the ongoing attempts by liberals to see every criticism of Obama or his left-liberal policies as driven by racism, or their attempt to paint a prejudicial broad brush on the basis of a few signs or comments that could be taken the wrong way. It's the Left's version of McCarthyism – guilt by association.

I heard a fine African-American at my rally. He name is Michael Williams. You should hear what he had to say.

There was a diverse crowd of all ethnic and socio-economic levels – most were ordinary middle-class and working people, mostly just concerned about a Government that seems to be running amok spending money it doesnt have on programs we dont need and people and corrupt organizations (like flailing banks and and corporate welfare recipients) who dont deserve it.

“Give me Liberty, dont give me debt” and
“Stop Obama's Socialism” and
Having a sign that is just the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution(!!! Treason!)
or a sing that says “Term Limits” and
actual charts(!!!) of the projected deficits for the next 8 years.

Or wave the US flag or “Dont Tread on Me” flag.

“I for one am seeing the truth coming out and the wolves are dropping their sheeps clothing. “

So true! The liberals have been completely OUTED as intolerant fascists who really cant handle any criticism on the Dear Leader who is leading them down the primrose path of culteral and economic degeneration.

“The President has only been in Office for 1/4 of a year and he's catching more crap than our last” – Harldy. Bush was vilified from the get-go… but then Obama has the audacity to lie about his plans and go ahead and propose the most massive expansion in Govt spending in our history, the largest deficits ever, a huge tax increase, phony 'tax cuts' that are really a huge expansion in the welfare system, and 'stimulus' that is anything but. Meanwhile he give okay for AIG bonuses, his own chief of staff got Fannie bonuses and he gets more hedge fund money than any candidate in history. It stinks to high heaven and if you arent outraged you are not paying attention.

“It also kills me that people think this is going to be fixed over night” – It kills me that people are so CLUELESS to think that this is about the weak economy. Sure Obama is not doing a damn thing to improve the economy – attacking the private sector with more regulations and expanding deficits never help the private sector … but its not about that. Its about opposing Obama's plans to bankrupt the USA with $16 TRILLION in spending in 4 years.

Comment posted April 16, 2009 @ 6:55 pm

Obama's 4 year budget plan is $16 TRILLION. Realistically, Iraq is under 5% of total cost. We spent more on Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, domestic discretionary spending, education, spending, etc. Iraq is like #11 or #12 on the list. Obama wants to *expand* the war in Afghanistan and his attempt to get Europe's help was turned down.

Nancy Pelosi has been speaker for over 2 years now. The Democrat Congress has written budgets since 2007! So why blame the GOP for the fact that the Democrats in Congress are increasing spending at double digit rates!!

It's time to stop spouting the partisan BS koolaid that its all the Republicans fault and wake up to the fact that the Democrats in Congress are completely out of control on spending and your failure to stand up to it will doom our future to fiscal bankruptcy.

I think what he means is that obama's spending plans add up to more than all Presidents combined. We havent spent it, but the budget blueprint has been passed and we are 'locked and loaded' for a massive expansion in Govt spending.
Start with the $800 'stimulus'
Add the $75 billion housing bailout
Add the $1 trillion “Gietner “TARP III” plan to buy up bad assets
Add Obama's budget: $3.6 TRILLION next year, increasing in the out years, to be $16 TRILLION in 4 years and a $10 TRILLION debt increase in 8 years.

These numbers do indeed eclipse all previous metrics on spending or deficits.

“I am a conservative, a Barry Goldwater fiscal conservative. I love small government, low taxes, a balanced budget. Dont' give a damn about who someone sleeps with, who they marry, what they put in there body as long as it doesn't effect me.”
People who agree with this were out in force on April 15th at these pro-taxpayer rallies. Lots of libertarians showed up.

“I voted for Obama. He isn't my perfect candidate but the Republican party is worse than the Dems.” Dumb decision. he is the most opposed to everything that Barry Goldwater stands for as any president in history. He is the heir to LBJ.
“What announcer has prroven to be a bigger hypocrite than Rush Limbaugh?” You are a bigger
“GWB drove the defecits up, the economy went to hell under his watch (and 6 of 8 years of all Rep govt).” The economy was doing well until Democrat Nancy Pelosi and Democrat Harry Reid took control of Congress in Jan 2007. The economy stalled out once the Democrats in Congress started doing their tax-and-regulate thing.

“We have spent or will have committments for a medium estimate of 3 Trillion dollars because of the Iraq war. ” Big deal. Obama will spend TEN TIMES THIS AMOUNT in the next decade.

“I agree with the basic idea that you save during good times and pay down debt and you borrow during bad times.” – SO I GUESS YOU PREDICT 8 YEARS OF BAD TIMES UNDER OBAMA SINCE HE WILL HAVE DEFICITS OF ALMOST ONE TRILLION ON AVERAGE THE WHOLE TIME.

“I don't like the bailouts but they didn't start under Obama. ” HE VOTED AND SUPPORTED EVERY SINGLE ONE. FELLOW DEMOCRAT CHRIS DODD WROTE THE BILLS. OBAMA ASKED FOR ANOTHER $350 BILLION WHEN HE CAME IN AND NOW GEITNER IS DOING ANOTHER $1 TRILLION.

So the money count is this: $350 billion of bailouts under Bush, written and passed by a Democrat Congress and supported by Obama. Another $1,350 billion in bailouts under Obama.

And NO, Obama did NOT have to do this. These bailouts were not necessary.

“if you weren't concerned about the massive amounts of money that were disappearing in Iraq or the continued contracts with Halliburton and KBR and Blackwater then you shouldn't be concerned now.” – CONVERSELY, IF YOU WERE CONCERNED ABOUT $1 BILLION GOING THE KBR WITHOUT ACCOUTNABILITY, YOU SHOULD BE MUCH MORE CONCERNED ABOUT $800 BILLION IN STIMULUS WITHOUT ACCOUNTABILITY, $700 BILLION BANK BAILOUT, AND $1 TRILLION ASSET BUYUP.

It's time to put down the partisan baton for a bit and ask: What is the right policy for our long-term prosperity and freedom?
If you think the Obama $16 trillion budget is “IT” you've been drinking way too much koolaid.
If you think the Congress is spending money wisely in their $800 billion stimulus $700 billion bailout and $2 trillion budget deficit next year, you are NOT paying attention.

1) The ol' “The other guy did it first” excuse. If your point is that Obama is just a third Bush term, let's just stand back and enjoy that big fat irony for a while.

2) Pathetic phony mocking of McCain supporters. Nice elitist touch of having the yokel cling to God, guns and poor grammar. Never mind the fact that McCain would have won if the election were held with voters who had College or above educations. I have a PhD myself and The arrogance of Liberals never ceases to amaze me: Liberals assume intellectual superiority when in fact they are koolaid drinking idiots for a failed and flawed set of old broken and dangerous ideas. They claim to be 'reality-based' mainly by constructing reality in the bubble of biased media and projection of their own leaders' flaws on the 'other side'. they protest against 'prejudice' vigorously yet hypocritically practice it themselves on a daily basis.

The fact remains that patriotic ordinary Americans took some time off to remind America that we cannot afford to spend money we dont have on programs we dont need. The result will be a poorer America in hock to foreign bankers. It doesnt matter which party is doing it, but the fiscal recklessness and insanity has to stop.

Silly comments? I didn't realize racism was so “silly” or trivial. Since the majority of those who were protesting “taxes” are in actuality receiving tax cuts – let's admit what it really was….a protest against an African-American President. As far as I am concerned, those who carried the defamatory signs should have been arrested for racial intimidation. We need to set an example that racism is not acceptable.

Some “Kenyan trying to destroy America”, Not a “Real Citizen”, “Homey don't Play Dat”, “Don't Tax Me Bro”, references to “Hussein”, references to “Hangings”….That is not racist?

Just like the documentaries from the sixties where we see angry crowds yelling about segregation, those who attended these events with racist signs will be featured twenty years from now in documentaries about the first African-American President. Good job – something their grandchildren can be really proud of.

What would make great press coverage (hint, hint…for the next time there are “Tea Parties”) would be to ask these folks exactly what the Boston Tea Party was all about. A little historical trivia. I bet you would get some amazing answers.

I understand that Fox News et al wants everyone to think this is a populist movement but clearly its driven by idealogues from the other side who are sore losers and wants to keep the status quo. Oh, please.

This goes beyond the election and policies of Obama. The deregulation of industries, the discredited theory of supply side economics, the deficit spending championed by the GOP (Reagan and both Bushes) and the aggressive foreign excursions of your idols have all contributed to the mess we're in. Until you can accept that, you're just a brainless zombie aimlessly wandering the wasteland that is GOP territory. That'll get 'er done. Stupid libs. Don't you know that when the federal government gets small enough we're going to drown it in a bathtub, then we true conservatives could live in our Manichean paradise, where we get to talk about lynching government officials and shoot into crowds as much as want, because we're blameless. DID YOU KNOW?

If you're a 50-year old-with a college degree, you will pay approximately $81,000 over your working life just to pay the interest on the debt in the new budget.

If you're a 40-year-old, you'll pay $132,000 for the interest on this new budget.

And if you're a 20-year-old, just starting out after college, you will pay a whopping $114,000 just to service the interest on the debt created by this budget.

This is what these tea parties are about! Now add to that some pay-down of the principle & I think you have a real clear idea that 5% of the American population, or the over $250K crowd cannot do it alone. The only other group out there is the middle class of this country that will shoulder this huge debt Keep in mind that this does not include the debt that Bush and the republicans ran up, this is just on Obama's 3.7 trillion dollar budget proposal. Anyone wonder now: why the tea parties????

Bernake and the fed..pawn of the banksters. The banksters motto? DIVIDE AND CONQUER!

So a few hundred or even thousand people showed up to this rally and this “reporter” took about 13 images of signs that speak out about Obama. In the photos other signs can be seen in the background talking out about the Fed and stimulus spending. I'm sorry but I don't see any reporting here.
I was at a tea party and yes I did see some racists. It’s sad that some took this opportunity to voice opinions that had nothing to do with the point of this rally. Many people did not know what they were protesting however even more people had strong valid points for protesting. Points that went back as far as 1971 when we stopped using the golden standard and began printing funny money. Signs blamed Bush senior and Bush Jr. as well as Obama. People yelled no taxation without documentation and when asked they could tell you that the Boston tea party happened after England lowered the tax on tea as a way of getting colonists to pay a duty tax and signal their submission to parliament. We have had taxes lowered as well but how long can that last when government spending is 25 times higher than the new deal after accounting for inflation. Obama has a lot of ideas that can help this nation but listening to people like Dave Obey and other authors of this stimulus plan is a great failure on his part. If he is truly a master chess player he will see that he has just lost his rooks and re-strategize before he loses his queen and then the game.

My wife and I attended the Tea Party on July 4th In Washington DC.
The concerns that brough most people together were the following:
Neither Republicans or Democrats look out for Americans,
but their own Party comes first above everything else.

1. How does Congress pass bills that are never read?
2. We were told that that this adminstration would be the most transparent, that bills
would be posted for a period of time, so that we Americans would know what are
elected officials were voting for. Now we find that they vote and don';t know why.
3. Our President inherited many problems, but instead of solving them, it appears that
we are using the old Stand By – throw money at the problem and maybe it will go away.
This logic has never worked.
4. Decent Americans are working hard, playing by the rules
and then finding out that our elected officials play by a different set of rules.

WE LIVE IN THE GREATEST COUNTRY THAT HAS EVER BEEN CREATED.

and yes there were a few nut jobs who had discraceful signs, but we still live in a Free
Country where all types of ideas are tolerated, but not accepted.

May our country survive this crisis and our children and grandchildren prosper.

Where did you get your PhD, T M ? What did you study? Where did you get your Masters, and BA? I assume no intellectual superiority, only curiousity. Is your degree relevent to a discussion of economics? You certainly use a lot of big words in your second point, there…

Also: You never repsonded to the meat of the disagreement above: “where were these protests when Bush was expanding government?”

I look forward to your rebuttal.

Derek: What this country needs is one more change. You would think that our new President, who ran on a total change campaign would have already done it. Instead of a Republican party and a Democrat party, we should form a new two party system of conservative and spendthrift parties. Of course the candidates for the Spendthrift party would have to furnish their own money.

Marxism ? give me a break, we are so far from that its not even funny. They are eventually going to become a huge liability for the republican party as nobody is going to be able to pass their purity test and you will have a fractured republican party that won't be able to agree on anything let alone a candidate that can appeal to any sizeable cross section of the electorate, they will probably end up nominating Lyndon LaRoushe for president. — I know he's a Marxist, thats why it will happen, the final product of the tea pary movement…..consistent with their already out of context and backwards way of thinking, yes they will nominate a Marxist to replace what they consider to be a Marxist….a total contradiction in terms and result, this is exactly where the tea party movement is headed.

Yes, better end this with Ayn Rand. He reminds me of some of the most logical yet emotion-packed phrases I have ever read.

He has been a constant topic of my essays before, and I never thought that he would also be a great end for once in a lifetime gathering.

However, I was saddened that there are children there. I wonder what kind of principles they are being fed by activities like this. They don't understand the real score but they could understand one thing – it is okay to do extreme acts if you don't like something – and this is something alarming.

Must have just been a misunderstanding, there is no way he may have not been telling the truth. Don't be deceived, there is spin going on everywhere, it is what you do with it that matters. Soak it up, or figure out where you stand. I do agree that the Dems are the only party for the people: Liberal people. When are they going to lookout for small businesses, people who are willing to work for a days pay and not have a handout expecting Uncle Sugar to pay my way. I'm still looking for that “meaningful health reform”. Is that the one that opposes the will of a majority of the people?

Very well said 'abooker' and 'CAsunshine'. Sadly, very sadly, 'Joepeanut' is the majority of the “tea party” crowds these days. (He watched 'Top Gun' and thought it was the air force, then insults someone on his own numbness.) It's Not like the tea party folk of Ron Pauls crowd. Which is why we have this fake 'tea party' crowds now; the Ron Paul groups did so well it scared them, so as foxnew$ & neo con$ do, they take their biggest weakness and turn it around on their “enemy”. (see also: McCain born in Panama) Fox New$ gets behind the teabaggers of today encouraging them to simply bad mouth Obama. (not the government, not the house, not the senate, etc..- just Obama.) Question, where were these so called sign holding 'Patriots' when the bu$h jr. admin put us in the 2nd biggest hole ever? I mean, taking away the Army private's peeling potato's job, to outsource it to Haliburton/KLH friend$ for 70.$ an hour, paid for by the American Taxpayers (us) – some people refuse to get a clue once they picked a side.

Your 18%, with it's roots in the KKK, John Birch Society and white supremacist groups and militias, are a bunch of no-information voters who wouldn't know a fact if it slapped them. All you care about are your biases and your whiny complaints. Your 18% are disingenuous, intellectually challenged, morally depraved and completely craven.

Fortunately, pretty much the rest of the 72% of us are willing to let you exercise your rights, but we ain't voting with you or for your wacko candidates.

I tend to agree with the comments here about the general disapproval about the monument. I live in the DC area and enjoy walks along the monument area. My biggest problem with the WWII monument is that the monument seems to glorify the war over the service members who lost their lives. The other war memorials in the area (WWI, Korea and Vietnam) place the emphasis on those who fell (either by name or pictures) while the WWII monument places the glory on the battles and campaigns. The only nod to fallen service members is in the form of a field of stars which, if people were not told what they meant, would pass with little attention being paid to it.

The grouping of staff in teams often provides the best option for inter-communication and/or supervision and is a key factor in office layout design. However, where space is at a premium it may be difficult to accommodate a work group in a given area, and the solution often involves making Office Space by moving others. These types of move may be complex and disruptive as there is often a chain of events involved.

Most Tea Party activities in 2010 have been focused on opposing the efforts (supported by the Obama Administration) to enact reforms to health insurance and health care delivery, and on recruiting, nominating, and supporting candidates for upcoming state and national elections.citation needed. The name “Tea Party” is a reference to the Boston Tea Party, whose principal aim was to protest taxation without representation.Tea Party protests have sought to evoke images, slogans and themes from the American Revolution, such as tri-corner hats and yellow Gadsden “Don’t Tread on Me” flags. The letters T-E-A have been used by some protesters to form the backronym “Taxed Enough Already.

The Boston Tea Party was a direct action by colonists in Boston, a town in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the British government and the monopolistic East India Company that controlled all the tea coming into the colonies. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by throwing it into Boston Harbor. The incident remains an iconic event of American history, and other political protests often refer to it.

The Tea Party’s most noted national figures include Republican politicians such as Sarah Palin and Dick Armey. As of 2010, the Tea Party movement is not a national political party, but has endorsed Republican candidates.A Gallup poll shows almost 80% of Tea Partiers consider themselves to be Republicans.Commentators, including Gallup Editor-in-Chief Frank Newport, have suggested that the movement is not a new political group but simply a rebranding of traditional Republican candidates and policies. An October 2010 Washington Post canvass of local Tea Party organizers found 87% saying “dissatisfaction with mainstream Republican Party leaders” was “an important factor in the support the group has received so far”.

In Anglo-American culture, a tea party is a formal, ritualized gathering for afternoon tea, traditionally of women,[citation needed] although men may be invited to[citation needed] participate. The afternoon tea party was a feature of great houses in the Victorian and Edwardian ages in the United Kingdom and the Gilded Age in the United States. The formal tea party still survives as a special event, as in the debutante teas of some affluent American communities. Tea parties are also created by young children where the guests consist of stuffed animals, dolls, friends (both real and imaginary) and family members.Formal tea parties are often characterized by the use of prestige utensils, such as bone china or silver. The table is made to look its prettiest, with cloth napkins and matching cups and plates. In addition to tea, larger parties may provide punch, or in cold weather, hot chocolate. The tea is accompanied by a variety of easily managed foods: thin sandwiches, such as cucumber or tomato, cake slices, buns or rolls, and cookies are all common.
