Palin’s Lobbyist Tied to Abramoff

ANCHORAGE — Wow, here’s a great catch over at TPMmuckraker. It turns out that Steven Silver, the lobbyist Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin hired to hustle federal earmarks for her hometown when she was mayor, once worked for the now-disgraced Jack Abramoff:

But Silver appears to have additional ties that could further undercut Palin’s image as a squeaky-clean reformer. According to Senate lobbying disclosure reports examined by TPMmuckraker, from 2002 to 2004 Silver listed as a client Jack Abramoff’s lobbying firm, Greenberg Traurig.

Nice.

The muckrakers also note that this is not the first time Abramoff’s ties have made their way up here:

Last year, Mark Zachares, a former aide to [Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska)], pleaded guilty to accepting tens of thousands of dollars in gifts from Abramoff in return for using his position to advance Abramoff’s goals.

So far, though, Young has stayed two steps away from that scandal.

We've been told that Bristol was taken out of school due to mono. However, two things I've read since lunchtime seem to contradict that: 1) Her Wasilla HS Assistant Principal said she had transferred to a high school in Anchorage, and he did not know why. Generally, if a student is removed form school for health reasons, arrangements are made with the school for alternative opportunities to get the work done; 2) I also read that she had stayed with an aunt while completing her spring semester in Anchorage.

Personally, there is nothing about Sarah's supposed pregnancy, and now Bristol's supposed pregnancy, that passes the sniff test. As a working mother who's also raised 5 kids, I'm concerned that Gov. Palin is using her daughter. ONly one picture has surfaced that showed Gov. Palin with a purportedly pregnant belly. That could have been accomplished with a pregnancy pillow. If my fears about her cynicism and manipulation are correct – and I hope I'm wrong, because if I'm right, God help poor Bristol – then Bristol could just as easily be running around in the same pillow. I've tried carrying a 5 month old while pregnant with another child. I can tell you from experience that I would not be standing around in heels, holding that child, for any length of time. I'd be in flats, and “dad” would be doing equal time.

Laura,

Are you aware of the other news reports on Palin's early career, such as the two-part story about her that I discussed here in this “Profile of Mayor Sarah Palin”?
