…by being indicted! The longest-serving Republican senator was smacked with seven counts of corruption-related charges today. As I mentioned earlier, Stevens and I are old friends, in the sense that I hounded him for a period of time not so long ago. Today is my birthday and there isn’t much I’d rather have than a press release from the Justice Department on my desk announcing the news. Stevens’ once dictator-like margins of victory (78 percent in 2002) were looking less likely since his home was raided by the FBI last summer. The question I raise in my piece today is: can he survive?
