I suggest you do your homework before you make any further unsubstantiated attacks at Sarah Palin’s involvement in the Excellence in Public Service Series, or continue to spread the netlore surrounding this.

The 527 you refer to is NOT Ted Steven’s 527. He is not on the board of the the 527, nor is he a founder. It was simply named after him, long before any questionable activity came into play.

There are Excellence in Public Service Series Leadership programs for Republican women in many states. All of the state programs are named after living or dead Republican leaders. Sarah Palin’s connection as Director of the Alaskan Series would have no ethical wrongdoing whatsoever as it pertains to Ted Stevens other than the program had his name on it. Period.

Someone asked me to try to find a list of contributors who gave to the Stevens 527 that the WP reported Sarah Palin was a Director of. I was unable to locate that list but I did find some other things which may or may not be worth a look into but just in case anyone was looking into this stuff I figured I’d send it your way.

To disclose contributions and expenditures a group must file form 8872. Unless I am looking in the wrong place, currently there is no such form on file for the Stevens group which means they claim to have not received or expended any funds.

Here is a link to their AK corporate filing – note that although this Washington Post article (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008...) states that Palin is a Director of the corp., the AK Dept. of Commerce does not have her listed:

Also, it appears as if they filed a name change at some point since they created the entity. The name was changed to: Alaska Excellence in Public Service Series, Inc. I checked the IRS web site and did not find any forms on file under this name.

Something else interesting I noticed is that there are at least 15 other organizations filed with the IRS as 527’s whose names contain the words “Excellence in Public Service.” Each one lists its purpose as relating to the promotion of women in public office – as the Stevens group claims as their purpose. Many were formed around the same time. Not sure of the significance but it’s clear that there was a coordinated effort at some point at the national level to create these organizations on behalf of Republican/Conservative women.

Each of these groups has filed an 8871 but as is the case with the Stevens group, there has been no 8872’s filed.
