Bow Down Before the One You Serve

The latest fringe right meme: President Obama tipped us off to, uh, something, by briefly bowing before the king of Saudi Arabia. Townhall.com has the video (after the jump):

From the comments at, oh, let’s pick a random site … Michelle Malkin’s blog.

“Call me crazy – but Obama is communicating to a muslim how a muslim communicates. It’s really that simple. I was never one to accuse the man of being muslim in the past, but honestly, the more I hear and see from this man regarding all things muslim – it is disconcerting.”

“Maybe he was chanting his allah akbars when he was in Rev Wrights church for the last twenty years.”

“Is he bowing to Abdullah as a dhimmi, or is he bowing to acknowledge the king’s possession of Mecca?”

“HUSSEIN Obama recognizes the Saudi king as the defender of the Islamic faith…and that gets a bow from any moslem. Amyone ever see Obama eat a pork chop?”

Now, this isn’t at all when inspired Malkin to post the story. She was criticizing the president for genuflecting before the Saudis the way that former President George W. Bush once did. The “Obama proved he was a Muslim!” meme is sticking, though.

Can you provide a link to where GWB bowed before the Saudis. I can't find a thing.

Interesting comments above but might be worth keeping one thing in mind, muslims are forbidden from bowing to anyone other then God, it's actually something muslims dislike so the fact that Obama did this shows his lack of awareness of what a muslim is allowed to do/would like others to do.

Obama's father was from Kenya, and if he wasn't muslem, he would be familiar with muslem customs. Taking that into consideration with the diplomatic courtesy of “When in Rome…” Obama's actions are perfectly reasonable. He showing respect to the leader of the country he's visiting.

You know they are in ENGLAND, RIGHT???? And there is no “diplomatic courtesy” involved here. The U.S. President bows to NO-ONE! (The only exception would be a mutual bow – such as the Japanese). As for a “short bow”, not hardly… This was a GENUFLECTING BOW. Watch the video if you have doubts… There can be no misinterpretation when you've seen the video…

There is nothing about his actions that are “perfectly reasonable”… NONE. As for Bush? Someone provide a link to a picture? Why wasn't that picture used by the liberals to trash Bush if it really existed? Surely you all realize that a BOW would've ticked all of us off if it were Bush as well… Hand-holding and embracing is greeting someone as an EQUAL. Bowing with the HEAD DOWN, and bowing to his WAIST is SUBMISSION.

Ha ha, nice bit of disinformation that you want the libtards to follow. I was Pol-Mil Officer in the American Embassy in Saudi Arabia and oversaw meetings of Jimmy Carter, who famously forgot his briefing book on his bed [an alert Embassy staffer grabbed it before the Saudis could get their hands on it, but Carter had already boarded Air Force One for his next destination.]

Weigel is lying through his teeth, and GWB did hold hands with King Abdullah, a sign of close friendship which to an agitpreppie like Weigel, probably an atheist or non-Christian, would equal a genuflection, a practice in the Catholic Church. What Barry Hussein-O did was simply an enormous gaffe at best, and makes very appropriate the following phrase:

Welcome back, Carter!

If Mr. Obama had EVER pledged his life, fortune and sacred honor to defend and represent this country, he wouldn't have disgraced us so. In this way, or in any other.

It is said that we esteem too lightly that which we did not earn. Perhaps this is why he prefers being a “Citizen of the World”. Let him go then, and join them.

I'll throw in a Hamilton to get him on his way.

Obama did attend Islamic schools when he was a child but he supposedly was not practicing Islam until he married Michelle and then attended that church in Chicago which is pastored by “The Reverend Jeremiah Wright”. I use the term “pastor” very loosely here. I expect his joining the church was for political purposes – the “community organizer” position required it most likely. He had to mix with the folks you know.

Jakealoper, why in the world do you care what a foreigner thinks about us? (You ARE one of us right, an American?) Are you that desperate for reassurances that you're a good person, that your heart and motives are pure? WE live here, WE bear the risks and rewards of what happens, WE carry the reponsibility of our futures.

Shall I come with you to the toilet and tell you what a nice job you did peeing in the bowl? Maybe we'll get an ice cream after? For God's sake, be a man and stop seeking approval!

First off, they were in London and Obama didn't bow to the Queen, so why the extra solicitude for the Saudi king? Further, President Bush didn't bow to him. I believe he took his hand, which has nothing to do with bowing to your betters. In any case, President Bush was severely criticized by all left thinking people for weeks on end. We await their response to what at the very best is a diplomatic gaffe of the first order and at worst shows a want of understanding regarding American sovereignty.

Mark, you would do well to remember that my country AND yours were shepherded since infancy by people who risked everything they had to ensure that they could develop as best suited them. People better than you and me have died to defend this, and I intend to fight until my dying breath to protect our sovereignty.

Maybe I was hasty by assuming you are Australian, you only say you are FROM Australia. Maybe on student visa? Enjoying the fruits of the labors that others have won for you? Sleep well under what's left of the cloak of safety I and others provide you.

Instead of sending your monthly charity check to save a small brown child, you could actually GO to one of these third world cesspools and DO something, instead of sitting comfortably at home and feeling an undeserved sense of superiority.

I have bled in the service of my country, what have YOU contributed?

It's funny how dumbasses like you are getting the vapors because Obama bowed or because Michelle Obama touched the Queen or because they got the queen an i-pod (which the queen requested by the way). Yet you morons had no problem when George Bush gave Angela Merkel an unwelcome back rub and when he held hands with this Saudi benefactors.

Obama is conducting himself like a statesman. Bush acted like an immature fratboy. It was Bush who thoroughly embarrassed the US and it is Obama who is repairing our reputation in the world.

Sticking with who? The same people who think there is a birth certificate conspiracy? Their memes stick alright–they stick in their very, very empty heads. There isn't anything else in their heads, so some things are bound to stick eventually. Not to mention they have a new meme everyday. Who can keep up? Certainly not the ordinary voter. I assume that french kissing the Saudi King was just hunky-dory. Also, Bush whispering in his ear and holding his hand like they were on a Valentines Day date. Michelle “the immigrant” Malkin is possibly the most deranged of the bunch and that's saying a whole lot considering Glenn Beck is walking the earth.

Considering how awkward the bow was it seems like it was just a relatively minor gaffe; at least Obama didn't give the Saudi king a backrub or foot massage.

On the other hand, perhaps this is further proof that Obama is indeed a secret homosexual communist muslim fascist pederast who wants to destroy America?

I am so very glad that y'all have NO sense of history, or any patience for that matter. By trying to jam all of your left-wing nonsense down our collective throats so quickly, you have ensured that it will all be soon rejected.

If you throw a chicken into boiling water, it will jump out. You must SLOWLY raise the heat, so that it is well on it's way to being cooked before it realizes it's too late. I predict a VERY fulfilling 2010 elections for me and mine.

Make sure and take lot's of pictures, this is the last memory y'all will have of ever holding the keys again.

Thanks for the laughs!

Bush didn't bow. He leaned forward to make it easier for the shorter King to place a medal around his neck. To call that a bow is a blatant misrepresentation in a pathetic attempt to cover up Obama's disgraceful act. Heads of state are equals as per protocol and do not bow to each other. Whichever person is in the Oval Office is our representative, and Americans do not bow to dictators (and no one else should either!).

Americans don't bow to dictators! God-fearing Americans merely provide dictators with billions in weapons to maintain their hold on power in exchange for increased oil exports, dance with dictators, go falconing with dictators, accept awards from dictators in awkward ceremonies, etc. Get it straight!

“The deal, which could still be blocked by Congress, would see weapons, including Patriot missiles and precision-guided bombs, parcelled out to Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia, to counter Iran … Under the deal, Saudi Arabia is set to receive $9 billion (£4.5 billion) of weapons.”

I appreciate your comment explaining the circumstances in which Bush “bowed”. I was never a fan of Bush honestly, but I also never believed Obama would save the world. I honestly have a mixed family where some practice Islam (NOT ME!) and they couldn't wait for Obama to be President. I also hear some Jews voted for Obama because he appointed Jews to certain positions. I so far have not seen him do anything to help anyone over all! He just spins the nation into greater debt and mingles more openly with dictatorships than Bush did. Personally I feel a little scared. Obama is charasmatic and bold and Americans wanted someone like that so “save them”. Now he's taking over and its at our expense, no one seems saved. Bowing down is just one more thing I have to sigh about as even idiot members of my family rejoice.

There is no question that it was a bow, you need to watch it over again. His left hand went to his right knee to support the bow, there was no chair present. To bow to a king of Saudi Arabia, where the majority of terrorists responsible for the murder of over 3,000 American civilians is down right sickening. The king was involved in the attack as he promoted the anti-western rhetoric by allowing those Mullahs to preace hatred and violence against anyone they consider an infidel. He looked the other way, he is no friend of the USA.

It just goes to show that the American press is extremely liberal and trying to influence the American people. Whatever happened to freedom of the press and presenting both sides.
