I'd prefer that he get the blame he so definitely earned for creating the crisis, but I'll take what I can get. If it wasn't for youtube and google indexing their speeches and providing a record to refer to, these slimy politicians would say anything to anyone about anything and would lie with impunity to cover it up. We need to stop making this about left and right and hold these people accountable to simple standards of ethics and responsibility for their failures. Thanks for your excellent reporting on this issue. I admire how you stay focused on your own reading of events, instead of simply championing a Party line.

For example, you include criticisms of Dodd right there with an accurate narrative of events. It's like you have your own mind or something.

This has been a perfect demonstration of what Scott McClellan calls, "manipulating the media narrative." And your reportage has been the perfect response: busting myths even as propagandists deploy them.

I've been stunned by how our fellow citizens so quickly abdicate our role in our governance to the very knaves and thieves who've delivered us into this Waste Land. IMO, it's Geithner et al who need to speak OUR truth to OUR power; and when they shy away, we, the self-sovereign citizens, have the power to demand the truth.

Or at least, that's the theory of democratic republicanism. What we practice is more like pro-wrestling, eh?

No one at the Treasury Department is a senator. Either Dodd has professed to be a lapdog of the Administration and not a competent chairman of the Banking Committee, or he's just really not in control of his own affairs. He's gone on all kinds of news shows saying that he didn't attend the negotiations himself and that he doesn't know the names of the people who “forced” him to change the language. This is just icing on the cake, as far as I'm concerned. He blocked firm regulation of the GSEs back in 2004. He got two sweetheart mortgage deals from Countrywide, a company over which the Committee has oversight. And he depends on the donations of financial firms to stay in office. He's an embarrassment and he's got to go.
