Fifteen Years for Crimes Against Humanity?

Saddam Hussein henchman Tariq Aziz has been convicted by an Iraqi court of crimes against humanity. His sentence is … fifteen years in prison. Daphne, perhaps you can correct me here, but doesn’t it seem as if a crime of that enormity should carry a longer sentence? Apparently, throwing your shoes at George W. Bush carries the same amount of prison time as a crime against humanity.

What, you don't think that throwing a shoe at George W. Bush is a crime against humanity?

Actually, my question would be, what law is being applied in the Iraqi court? If it's international law, I don't think there's any set sentence for crimes against humanity. So then it's up to the Iraqi judge, and just how much humanity seems worth to him.

I totally agree. What is the point of such a low sentence? It does not coincide with the crimes in question..! If you ask me lock him up and throw away the key! Where is the justice for the poor families and friends left behind destitute? Who or what can rectify their total loss???
