Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) tweets about earmarks have won the hearts of Americans from Maureen Dowd to … well, to Maureen Dowd. But this latest tweet about “wasteful spending” is a head-scratcher.

$1 million for Shipment and storage of oil shale core samples

Oil shale research is wasteful? I don’t know many Republicans who agree with this. Does McCain think the word “shale” is funny or is he a skeptic?

Is McCain in favor of the $1 million requested by Congress mentioned in the article “Remembering Reagan for a Cool $1 Million”?

Storage and shipment? Couldn't they use Fedex and a public storage unit?

We're talking about pieces of rock, possibly long cylinders of rock, or maybe such cylinders sliced into thin sections. FedEx would probably be far more expensive.
