The Ramzi Yousef Case and Obama’s Potential Renditions
Monday, March 09, 2009 at 8:19 am
Peter Bergen, the only western reporter to have interviewed Osama bin Laden, reads my post about Obama’s rendition hints and emails:
I think the situation Obama is describing is the Ramzi Yousef case. No extradition treaty with Pakistan, snatched in Islambad [and taken] back to the U.S. Or am I missing something?
Probably not. The Yousef case — referring to the mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing who was eventually convicted in a U.S. court in 1998 — seems like a more precise example than the tweaked Abu Omar case I cited. For background, read this.
Update: Apologies to John Miller and Robert Fisk, who’ve also interviewed bin Laden.
