Ah, actually I just phrased that poorly. I meant to say that you said the PSCs protect the big shots from the dangers of the militias, etc., not that they were providing security to the militiamen.

Spencer,

While I am eternally grateful for the mention, you may have misinterpreted my comments just a wee bit . . .

When I made the Colombian comparison the reference was to private security being important for the commercial sector. Not sure the 'big shots from the various militias and terrorist groups' really need private firms.

By the way, your readers might find the latest Journal of International Peace Operations to be quite informative on the Iraq withdrawal issue - PeaceOps.com.

Doug Brooks
IPOA

Of course, the one downside I see, is having 113k newly unemployed American contractors come back here and flood the already-saturated pool of unemployed job-seekers. Funny that you mentioned Camp Liberty - I checked my visitor log last night and saw that I had my first visitor from Camp Liberty in Baghdad, and I'm picturing some soldier looking at all the bad economic news on the site, and deciding
to re-enlist just to stay employed.
