Michael Steele, Da Man

Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-Minn.) embarrassing praise for Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele at last night’s CPAC banquet is getting derided around the web. After Steele’s speech, Bachmann — the banquet’s emcee —took the mic and said, “Michael Steele, you be da man! You be da man!”

It was sort of strange, but Bachmann was getting into the flow of Steele’s speech. Some excerpts:

“What a house tonight. Are there any conservatives in the house tonight?”

“Tonight we tell the American people: We know, in the past, that we did wrong. My bad.”

“Young people in the house stand up! Young people in the house stand up!”

This just sounds more natural coming from Prince George’s County, Md.-born Steele than the Waterloo, Iowa-born Bachmann.

Oh, God. Is there any way to make them stop? What about a couple of governor's mansions, would that be enough?

Bachmann is an embarrassment. Why do people keep voting for her? I cringe every time I see her.

So your making fun of how she talked? In the spirit of the year of not being cowards and getting closer to other races and idenities do you really think deriding how she spoke is a good thing?

I am sure that if she spoke like a Waterloo, Iowa-born person you would be talking about how undignified and redneck it was. Instead she does a Prince George's county Md thing and you still complain. Sounds hypocritical.

Bachmann is an embarassment to Minnesota. She has a quite track record. You may recall he performance at the G.W. Bush State of the Union address immediately after she was first elected. So, her latest performance is no surprise.

Bachmann is a Palin twin. She was elected in a district with one of the largest “pro-life” electorates in the country. Unfortunately, the voters in Bachmann's district have seen fit to re-elect her. Those voters are, like Bachmann, a genuine embarrassment to Minnesota

So Steve, if she followed a Rep. from Appalachia, put on a forced accent and said, “Well, GAHHHH-LEEE, that THAR was a HUMDINGER of a speech, GUH-HUH,” and people thought it was idiotic and demeaning, Michele Bachmann would be a victim?

Tell me you're just racist, because I'd hate to believe that you are so dumb that you believe the “logic” you applied. I'd rather you be a bright bigot than that stupid.

Listen to the audio:

She actually says, “You be THE man.” Which… is even more pitiful.
